3. Chairman's Report:

4. Treasurer's Report (Accounts Attached) :

We have a fairly healthy balance at present of £31,027.00 however we do need to continue increase these funds ready for the re-surfacing of the 3 courts. There has been no significant changes to income and expenditure. Members fees have reduced since last year however we did have a life membership in 2012.

There were a few questions about what 'other' items included. This is predominantly the cost of LTA affiliation each year of £300.

David reported a couple of fraudulent attempts at taking money from the tennis club current account. Most of the funds are now kept in a Deposit account. Alan Smith asked about interest earned and David Robbins agreed to look at accounts with better rates.

David thanked Denise Klimek for auditing the accounts.

Accounts Adopted Andy Wilson

Account Seconded Sandra Berti

5. Club House Update

The findings from the recent survey (65 responses) were presented. A brief overview is attached to these minutes.

Recurring comments were for the place to be: freshened up, improve the toilets, more space, sheltered viewing of the courts and more storage. There was discussion about the priorities within the club. It was agreed that the courts should always take priority in terms of expenditure, which lead to discussion about timing of re-surfacing of the courts and type of surface. Jackie will remind members of the quotes received a couple of years back. In the meantime it was agreed they should be professionally cleaned asap.

At this stage there are no plans or quotes relating to any repairs/improvements/expansion of the clubhouse. However, it was agreed at the meeting these would now be investigated. Graham Archer raised the subject of funding/grants and it was agreed that we should employ an expert (for an appropriately acceptable fee) to look into this on behalf of the club.

Sources of income may also include funds from the Parish Council and the May Festival (Graham asked if we could raise a few volunteers to help with jobs such as putting up the bunting).

The subject of the fencing was also raised. During crickets matches there have been a few near misses with cricket balls landing on the courts during play. The possibility of raising the height of the fencing on the north side should be investigated.

Chairman's Report

Kimpton Tennis Club AGM November 27th 2013

Overview

This is the end of my second year as Chairman, and it is one that I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned a huge amount from. My thanks to all the Committee Members that have put in time and effort - Dave Robbins, Dave

Lewis, Andy, Sadie and especially Jackie, to the Social Committee - Kirsty, Tina, and Laural; to Bob, Abbie, Trina and

Craig, to Janet, to Alan and Margaret and to all of you as members that make KTC such a great club to belong to.

Leagues and Competitions

The Datchworth League:

Summer Datchworth League saw 6 teams and a total of about 50 players all achieve great results. No promotions this year but we are now set to have at least 6 teams again next year and we will have a team in divisions 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, & 8 giving an opportunity for competitive players of all standards to take part.

The Autumn League is yet to finish but Team 1, captained by Tim Worboys secured promotion from Div 3 to Div 2 after comprehensively beating all the other teams and finishing 14 sets ahead of 2nd place team. Tim wanted to give special thanks to the girls, Abbie James, Jackie Worboys and Emma Thompson who did fantastically well to to cement the victories alongside their partners Tim W, Chris D, Mark K, Bob V.

Team 2 will finish very respectably in the middle of Division 7 after a serious of good wins and strong defences against teams rising through the divisions. Well done to all who took part.

Hot Rackets and the Herts Vets League.

Hot Rackets team 1, captained by Tim Worboys played in Div 3 - The team won convincingly without losing a game and finished 15 sets ahead of the 2nd place side which guarantees them promotion to Div 2 next year - The team was Tim W,

Chris D, James C, Mark K, Goncalo Esteves, Bob Voyce, Kevin S, Simon B and Rob James.

Hot Rackets Team 2 played in Division 5 and held on well to finish in 3rd place above both odyssey and codicote.

Kimpton also had a great first year in the Mens Vets. Captained by Chris Dillon they came top of Division 3 having won 56 out of a possible 59 sets throughout the season. Chris would like to thank the team that included Tim Worboys, Mark Klimek,

James Hartley, James Cole, Dave Hibbert, Chris Dillon, Bob Voyce and Duncan Reed.

In total this year over 60 players took part in competitive league matches for a Kimpton team which is about 50% of the adult members.

Ladies Hot Racquets and Vets

We played in the Hot Racquets during the summer and though were well ahead at the beginning of the season managed to slip down to 3rd place overall. Will aim to do better next year!!

We also had a team in the Herts 40+ Ladies Vets last winter 2012/13 and came 2nd which means we were promoted. A good result and we have just commenced playing the 2013/14 winter season matches.

These matches are always very enjoyable particularly as they always end with a full tea including lots of cake!!

A big thanks and well done to all those who participated.

Within the club itself, we ran a series of competitions, including the Opening Tournament that unfortunately was cancelled due to the weather. The Spring Finals Day which saw Tim Warboys win the Mens Singles, Abby James win the Ladies Singles, Kevin Sharp and Alan Roberts won the Men's Doubles, Jackie Worboys and Susan Sharp win the

Ladies Doubles and Caroline Sharpe and Mark Frost win the Mixed Doubles.

In the Family Tournament, Duncan and Jack Reed took the title, and in the Guy Rutherford Trophy David and Tina

Lewis were the victors. The Improvers trophy was won by Kathryn Robbins and Clive Mitchell.

In the Summer Finals, Goncalo Esteves won the Men's Singles, Jackie Worboys the Ladies Singles, Duncan Reed and

Robert Mitchell won the Men's Doubles, the Mixed Doubles was won by Abby James and Craig Barnes - the Ladies

Doubles was won by Emma Thompson and Kathy Emms

In the Juniors Josh Kerton was the ultimate victor

Finally the Annual Village Cricket 6 a Side was won by... KIMPTON TENNIS CLUB!

Our thanks to everyone that took part in any of the competitions, and congratulations to the winners,

Events/Social Committee

As always thanks to the Social Committee for all that they do.

We've had quizzes, walks, boules and a memorable singalong as well as bingo and of course the Christmas Dinner.

Each event takes a huge amount of organisation, and anyone that can spare the time to get involved in one event or several would be more than welcome

Courts/Club House

As promised last year we have taken a long, hard look at the Club House and ways in which we can improve it as well as the courts themselves. A survey was run in July to find out exactly what the members thoughts were, and our thanks go to the 66 members that participated - reflecting we would think the majority of the Club given household email addresses and family members etc:

Overall the views expressed were as follows:

Usage

95% of Members responding use the club both during and outside of club night and league matches, with a majority using the clubhouse when they visit.

Key Question Responses

• What do you think of the clubhouse from the outside?

66% thought it was average

• What do you think of the clubhouse from the inside?

71% thought it was average

Overall: It's not great but it's not bad either

Recurring comments that action can be taken on:

Freshen up,

Improve the loos

More space

Sheltered viewing

More storage

We are also going to apply for Parish funds to look at a proper extension and will keep you up to speed with all of that.

Courts

Many thanks to all those that took part in the cleaning of the courts in October. It's become apparent that more does need to be done and we are firstly going to take the moss on with a high pressure scrubbing and then if that isn't successful we will go for the professional court cleaning option. Clearly safety and payability is of paramount importance.

So that's it from me, I am now standing down to focus on the spring arrival of KTC's newest Ball Girl, thank you for giving me the opportunity to be the Chair - it has been a great pleasure

Mike Newman, Chairman.
