Superintendent’s Update Michael A. Fulton, Ed.D., Superintendent Rachel’s Challenge comes to Pattonville High School On Jan. 23, the entire study body of Pattonville High School took part in a Rachel’s Challenge assembly. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School in 1999. Rachel left behind a simple challenge - treat others with kindness and compassion, and you just may change the world you live in. Students heard her messages of hope and compassion from presenter Dave Gamache. Then a core group of 100 students were trained on the principles of the program and how they can continue to foster them well after the day of the assembly. Gamache also ventured to Holman Middle School in the afternoon to present to sixth-graders and other students who were not present at last year’s Rachel’s Challenge presentation. Both Holman and Pattonville Heights Middle School have implemented this program. Thanks to the Bridgeton Police Department for providing funding for the high school program and to the SPEAK group at PHS for hosting the event. Above, student David Robinson speaks during a Rachel’s Challenge training.
