I am pleased to announce the opening of our FedEx Trade Networks international freight
forwarding office in Lyon, France. Since 2008, we have established operations in some of
the world’s most significant freight forwarding markets, opening a total of 45 new offices
throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. The Lyon office marks
our third location in France, joining the Paris and Le Havre operations.
The Lyon region is an economic powerhouse of European stature and is France's secondlargest business capital after Paris. It serves as a major center for banking and also the
automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries. The Lyon-Saint Exupéry
Airport is an important transport facility for the entire Rhône-Alpes region and France’s largest
inland container port, Port de Lyon Edouard Herriot, provides convenience for all modes of
transport.

Marseille is France’s largest commercial ocean port (the second largest in Europe, second only to
Rotterdam) – 100 million tons of freight pass annually through the port. 5
Le Havre, which lies on the right bank of the Seine estuary as it enters the English Channel, is
located some 216 kilometers west-northwest of Paris. Much of the traffic passing through the port
is crude oil, but the port is also important for its ship repairs and its ferry services to England and
Ireland. The port supports a large industrial zone that contains oil-refining, chemical, petrochemical,
cement, automotive, and aeronautical industries. 6
