Attention All Sportsman
Ray Gawlas has announced his retirement as the representative to the Schenectady County Conservation Council
effective end of this year. Ray has represented us for 20 + yrs and has kept our club current with DEC and the gun
laws for NYS. We need someone to replace Ray and continue our visibility at this organization. We actually can
have up to 5 members representing the Guan Ho Ha at these meetings and would welcome additional attendance.
The Conservation Council is comprised of volunteers who are concerned with sound management of the state’s and
the nation’s land, water, fish and wildlife resources. The club’s representative would:
• Be a voice for us with the state and DEC
• Listen/learn proposed Legislative changes on
gun laws and DEC changes
• Report these updates to the clubs monthly mtgs.
These meetings are very important for our club as a whole. We need the representation and it’s an easy way for
someone to get involved with minimal commitment and support our organization. Please contact Ray Gawlas for
additional details at 518-372-2357 or gawlasr@yahoo.com
Thank You to all of the members and non members who help to make this club look as good
as it does. If you see any of these fine folks, tell them thank you for the work that they do.

2015 Camp Colby/Pack Forest Camper Sign-Up
This past summer GHH sponsored 7 campers to the Department of Environmental
Camps Colby and Pack Forest. Our camp attendees report fun and rewarding
experiences and many hope to have the opportunity to return next summer. Some of our
sponsored campers have even been invited back to train as counselors. Great to hear!
These summer camps encourage our youth to value the environment and help to develop
life skills and safe and active participation in a myriad of outdoor activities. For many
campers the experience leads to future education and career decisions.
Interested campers must submit a letter of application addressed to the Guan Ho Ha
committee chair, Dale Olsen. Letters may be sent to Dale Olsen via e-mail at
dolsen@ptcconnect.net or dropped off to the club. Please label your letter Attn: Dale
Olsen/DEC Camps.
The letter you write is a request for club sponsorship. This means that if you are
selected, the club will pay for your week at camp. In your letter, you want to tell the
selection committee why you think you deserve to be a sponsored camper for 2015.
Briefly outline your personal interests and experiences related to either Camp Colby or
Pack Forest. Be sure to include the following:
1.
•
•
•
•
Your date of birth
Your telephone number(s)
e-mail contact for registration purposes
The name of the club member that will be your sponsor and coordinate your
transportation to and from camp
Any prior DEC camp experiences and whether or not you have been invited back
•
for a week to train by the DEC and if it is pending next year's attendance
The camp that you are interested in attending and what you hope to gain from
•
your 2015 summer camp stay
Visit the DEC website, www.dec.ny.gov, to learn more about the summer camp
experience and be sure to submit your letter ASAP in order to considered for club
sponsorship and have the most choice for the date of your camping week. Those
campers selected will be notified after the January 22, 2015 meeting and provided with a
code to use for registration.

RANGE Monitoring
Effective Immediately
The range is being monitored by the new range officers
and they have a great concern about how the target area
is being destroyed. They have taken the time to patch
the back board to see how members shoot. If you can’t
hit your target and you’re hitting wood, you might want to
move forward until you zero your firearm in. Range rules
are posted. - Steve Tozer
NO .50 CAL Military Weapons Allowed on the ranges…
We are not set up for this large caliber!
** .50 Cal Blackpowder / Muzzleloader’s are OK! **
NO RAPID FIRE
on all of the ranges, ONLY slow deliberate shooting
