Led by stalwarts Dave Bidini and Martin Tielli, their music has been described variously as “prog-rock”, “art-rock”, “orchestral psychedelia” and “a loosely organized cacophony of sound”, all of which reveal the frustrating limits of language. Rheostatics have released eleven albums since 1987, inspired by such national treasures as the Group of Seven, Stompin’ Tom Connors, rolling prairies, Canada’s national game, les couriers du bois and more. In a millennial survey of Canadian music critics, Rheostatics had two albums–Melville and Whale Music–in the top ten Canadian records of all time. “Canada Listens,” sponsored by CBC’s Saturday afternoon magazine Definitely Not the Opera, chose Whale Music as the single rock album with which all Canadians had to be familiar. www.rheostatics.ca Dave Bidini A master storyteller, Rheostatic Dave Bidini lifts the hockey story to the level of modern Canadian folklore. He has become popular in recent years as one of Canada’s best known authors, having published several books including two critically acclaimed volumes on hockey culture: Tropic of Hockey and The Best Game You Can Name (McClelland & Stewart). www.davebidini.ca One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre What began as a small troupe in 1982 has grown into one of Canada's bestknown theatrical voices at home and abroad. Freely blending elements such as drama, dance, poetry and monologue into an unpredictable whole, the company has charted a path that is experimental yet professional, challenging but always captivating. Whether producing shows with its own tight-knit artistic family, or presenting the best modern performance the world has to offer, One Yellow Rabbit is truly an international treasure. One Yellow Rabbit strives to create theatre that is indigenous in the sense that it is conceived and performed by artists from the Calgary community, focusing on subjects that matter here. The company draws from an ensemble of skilled and imaginative artists who work professionally in the disciplines of acting, directing, writing, dance, choreography, music and the visual arts. The synthesis of such elements results in a unique, multi-faceted form of expression we call "performance theatre". www.oyr.org One Yellow Rabbit Ensemble Members of the internationally acclaimed One Yellow Rabbit Performing Ensemble are directed by Blake Brooker, with staging by Denise Clarke, and are noted for their intricate physical movement and musicality. Founded in 1982, the core of the ensemble ranges from co-founders/co-artistic directors Blake Brooker and Michael Green to newest members Onalea Gilbertson and David van Belle.
