FINANCIAL HIGHLIGHTS
Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC) commits to providing quality educational opportunities for
students. The Foundation seeks funding to assist WNCC in fulfilling its mission to students throughout its
12 ½-county service area in the following ways:




Student scholarship funds;
Development of endowments for scholarships and College programs and initiatives;
Acquisition of equipment to enhance hands-on student learning; and
Expansion of campus facilities and programs.
A variety of gifts are welcome, each allowing the donor unique tax benefits and the opportunity to
designate their gifts for specific program areas or purposes.
OPERATING HIGHLIGHTS
Great things have happened this past year at WNCC, which your support has made possible: the vocal
music program performed at the American Association of Community Colleges in Seattle this past fall and
will once again perform at Carnegie Hall; the Lady Cougars Volleyball team was once again was one of the
top teams in the nation; important equipment upgrades were made to the Aviation Maintenance
Technology program, one of only 55 such programs in the nation; the Monument Marathon attracted
runners from all over the country to our community; WNCC students continue to outperform their peers
when they transfer to four year institutions and over 80% of WNCC students return or stay right here in
western Nebraska to work and make our communities better.
The Foundation at WNCC was founded in 1971 to assist students in achieving their educational goals
through several scholarship programs and has since expanded into an organization that provides support
for students, faculty, staff, programs, and capital projects on each of our three campuses. The Foundation’s
achievements include taking on a capital campaign in 2005 to construct the Harms Advanced Technology
Center, located on the WNCC Scottsbluff campus. Through the generous support of individuals,
corporations, and other organizations, The Foundation has grown from nothing more than a dream to over
$2.8 million in net assets to date. The Foundation is governed by a committed and active volunteer board.
Our mission statement affirms our belief in the importance of our role to assist in providing educational
opportunities to all of our constituents:
The Western Nebraska Community College Foundation shall advance the mission and goals of Western
Nebraska Community College by providing resources, both financial and professional, to enhance
scholarship offerings, to provide growth opportunities, to support programs, and to plan for the future
through special and capital projects. This will maintain the excellence of the College by expanding access
and affordability to a superior learning environment for students. We enhance the competitiveness of the

college through funding state-of-the-art facilities, scholarship opportunities, and academic programs for
students. This will enhance the lives of community members, the quality of the college, and the communities
it serves.
Current Strategic Planning Goals:
#1: Improve relationships with faculty and staff
#2: Communicate the Foundation’s story, purpose and processes with the College
#3: Establish relationships with Sidney and Alliance
#4: Establish connection with alumni and college attendees
#5: Develop contact with current and prospective donors
#6: Endowment
#7: General fundraising
#8: Long-range planning for giving
LOOKING AHEAD
As we look to the future to help students achieve their dreams at WNCC, we look to expand upon the
important work that has already begun. We will grow endowments to ensure scholarship funds are
available for years to come; we will work with the WNCC staff to assess and address ongoing programmatic
and facility needs; and we will continue to be a bridge to the community by choosing to invest their money
in Western Nebraska Community College. Every dollar makes a difference and helps to make Western
Nebraska an even better place to live.

GO TO WASTE…WHEN I AM DONE WITH MY
COLLEGE EDUCATION, I KNOW THAT I WILL LOOK

HELP…”

MONUMENT MARATHON
The WNCC Foundation Board’s signature event is the annual Platte Valley Companies Monument Marathon,
which held its inaugural event in September 2012. The Marathon is a public-private partnership event,
with assistance by the Star Herald newspaper. Over 400 runners and walkers, from 24 states, compete in
the event, traveling along the same routes as the pioneers who traveled the Oregon, Mormon and California
trails.
The event is set against the natural beauty of the towering natural monuments and landscape of Scotts
Bluff County. The 2013 event also received an award from the Nebraska Department of Tourism, as the key
tourist attraction for the state of Nebraska. The full-marathon (26.2 miles) and half-marathon (13.1 miles)
offer a unique experience to runners and walkers. Scotts Bluff National Monument serves as the focal point,
as the course traverses through the park’s badlands and historic Mitchell Pass. The plains of western
Nebraska offer stunning landscape views and the adjoining Wildcat Hills, with rugged rock buttes and pineclad canyons, bring a beautiful contrast that participants seeking a scenic course will appreciate. The Platte
Valley Companies Monument Marathon and Half-Marathon are sanctioned and certified by the USA Track
and Field Association.
