Group Fitness classes are offered at all recreation centers and require Virginia Beach Recreation Center membership or day pass, in addition to a group fitness punch card, 30 day unlimited pass, or 90 day unlimited pass. Cards and passes can be purchased at any recreation center. All centers have a limited amount of equipment available. Participation is on a first come, first served basis. Group Fitness participants must be age 14 or older. Those age 12 & 13 may participate if supervised by an adult. Wear comfortable, breathable clothing and appropriate shoes. Cardio, Core & More: A 60-minute total body workout where you will get your sweat on, your muscles sculpted, and your core strengthened. Deep Water Cardio and Core: Get the benefits of a high-energy cardio aqua class without any impact on your joints while recruiting your abdominal muscles to maintain proper body alignment and technique during class. Your body is fully suspended in deep water – with the assistance of a buoyancy belt – which enables you to work on your range of motion and execution of moves. This class is suitable for all levels of fitness. Fluid Moves: Our gentlest aqua class designed specifically for mature members or those returning to fitness after rehabilitation to loosen joints and improve range of motion, muscular strength and balance. Forever Fit: A variety of upper and lower body conditioning exercises that will challenge your core and postural muscles for strength, in addition to balance and flexibility. Stability balls are used to enhance coordination and balance as well as a mat for floor work. H.I.I.T. it Hard: A high intensity interval training program to shock your system and work it to its capacity. Various drills are performed to enhance muscular and cardiovascular strength. No two classes are ever the same! Hi/Lo Tabata: The method to success in this format is 20 second intervals followed by 10 second of rest periods performed 8 times before moving onto the next drill for effective fat burn in a short amount of time. The Hi/Lo format allows you to work at varying levels, which makes this cardio-based class perfect for all fitness levels. Take it Hi or take it Lo, just get in and give it a go! Kettlebell Cardio: This class is a series of kettlebell movements that require your body to react as a whole to create balance, coordination, strength, flexibility and stamina. Pilates Essentials: This all level mind body class will introduce the principles, philosophy and exercises of the Pilates method. Silver Sneakers® Classic: Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Silver Sneakers® Yoga: Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. The format for this class is to be seated or standing; participants do not get on the floor. Turbo Tabata & Core: Interval training is the most effective way to burn the most fat and calories in a short period of time.
