We have a variety of drop-in fitness classes to meet your busy schedule! Group Fitness classes are offered at all recreation centers and require Virginia Beach Recreation Center membership or day pass, in addition to a group fitness punch card, 30 day unlimited pass, or 90 day unlimited pass. Cards and passes can be purchased at any recreation center. All centers have a limited amount of equipment available. Participation is on a first come, first served basis. Group Fitness participants must be age 14 or older. Those age 12 & 13 may participate if supervised by an adult. Wear comfortable, breathable clothing and appropriate shoes. 20/20/20: Engage in an even split of cardio for fat burning; strength training for a revved up metabolism; and flexibility and stretching for a balanced approach to fitness. Circuit Stations: Work your way through a variety of circuits that offer 3 minute timed cardio, strength and core exercises with a minute rest before moving onto the next station. This is a great High Intensity Interval Training class that will have you burning calories during class and all day long. Aqua Muscles and Moves: All the traditional water fitness moves are brought to life to improve strength and cardio conditioning. Intensity options are given to challenge all fitness levels. Deep Water Cardio and Core: Get the benefits of a high-energy cardio aqua class without any impact on your joints while recruiting your abdominal muscles to maintain proper body alignment and technique during class. Your body is fully suspended in deep water – with the assistance of a buoyancy belt – which enables you to work on your range of motion and execution of moves. This class is suitable for all levels of fitness. Gentle Chair Yoga: Move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. Hi/Lo Tabata: The method to success in this format is 20 second intervals followed by 10 second of rest periods performed 8 times before moving onto the next drill for effective fat burn in a short amount of time. The Hi/Lo format allows you to work at varying levels, which makes this cardio-based class perfect for all fitness levels. Take it Hi or take it Lo, just get in and give it a go! Hybrid Aqua Tabata: This energizing class can be taken in the shallow or deep end!
