Welcome to Hopwood Hall College Community Learning Winter 2015 Newsletter. Here
at Hopwood Hall we offer a range of part-time courses for adults at a number of venues
across Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood.
Our courses are for people who want to develop and improve their own individual skills and abilities whether it’s in
preparation for employment, further education or your own personal interests. Details on all our courses can be found in
this newsletter. The concession fee (CF Fee*) shown is subject to employment status and income based benefits.

expectations. A relaxed and fun course that will enable you to see
your outdoor space in a new light and plan the purchase of plants
to fit in with your overall vision.

Deaf Awareness Course
No previous experience
of British sign language
or knowledge in the
subject area is required
to attend this course.
The Deaf Awareness and
Communication course
is designed to provide
introductory knowledge
and skills for enhancing
communication with a wide
variety of deaf people. The
course consists of two units:
Unit 1: Deaf and deafblind
Awareness. You will learn
about: terminology used to
describe deafness, statistics,
communication, language and
culture, society, technology,
language and communication
services/organisations.
Unit 2: Communication tactics
withdeaf and deafblind people.
You will learn about identifying
appropriate communication
tactics, creating the best
environment for communication
and how to use communication
tactics.
The course is designed not only
for those working with deaf
people but also for those who
wish to learn new skills which
may assist them in their work or
everyday lives.
The class will take place over 10 weeks on a Tuesday
from 4.45pm to 6.45pm at the Middleton Campus.
Introduction to Counselling
This course in open to anyone who has an
interest in counselling and helping people,
with the development of inter personal skills.
What you will cover:
• What is counselling?
• Listening and
communication skills
in counselling
• Different styles/
schools of counselling
• Different specialism’s
with special emphasis
on dealing with
addiction
• Motivational
Interviewing (MI) when
managing change
• Personal Development
and what this means
This is a brand new
course for Hopwood
Hall College, and is an
exciting opportunity
for you to explore the
concepts of counselling,
for the purpose of
progressing onto higher
counselling qualifications
or for personal
development.
The class will take place over 10 weeks on a Thursday from
5.30pm to 8.30pm at the Middleton Campus.
