Dear Members of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Family,
We are all called to preach the Good News of the Gospel in our daily lives, and
some would argue that the most important preaching happens in our schools.
Within the walls of IHM School, lives are changed as our students learn not only
the principles of math, science and the humanities – important for their academic
development – but they also learn to become children of the Gospel – important
for their spiritual development. Our gifted teachers play a critical role in the
growth of our students and they are to be congratulated for their continued
good work.
We all can appreciate the difficulties brought on by the continued sluggish
economy which has motivated our families and our parish to look for ways to be
better stewards of our treasure. Thank you for your faithful support through your
participation in the Annual Fund, GRACE Scholars, Home & School fundraisers
and the like. Can there be a more important investment than our children?
I think not.
Reverend James A.
Schillinger S.T.L.
Pastor
IHM is a school of moral character. We participated in Rachel’s Challenge, a yearlong school-wide program that equips students and adults with the skills to combat
bullying by creating a culture of kindness and compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is
a wonderful example of how Catholic Social Justice can be put into action by our
children. The moral fiber of our students was further revealed when for the second
year in a row the Anti-Defamation League awarded IHM School the title of
“No Place for Hate”.
Through our efforts we can have a positive impact on the lives of our students and
our community. I ask all of you to continue to help us reach our shared goal of
implementing the Gospel in the lives of all we touch.
Sincerely in Christ,
Dear Friends of IHM,
When I think of all of the various attributes of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic
School the one that strikes me the strongest is the concept of family. In a family we
support one another and learn our basic values and beliefs while instilling a sense
of belonging.
Our strong tradition of legacies at IHM speaks to this sense of belonging. Last
year a full 10% of our school population included those whose parent(s) attended
IHM School as students. This spring we had the honor of recognizing six of these
students as they graduated from IHM. The IHM community supported the Home
and School Association’s wildly successful Derby Day Auction, netting $81,000,
and we experienced a 98% participation rate in our Annual Fund campaign. The
GRACE Scholars program continues to be well supported by the larger IHM
family, allowing us to provide scholarships that last for a student’s entire career
at IHM.
James P. Lee
Principal
We are a community of people set on building an educational environment that
provides the best possible outcome. We are growing young people into responsible
adults who will lead us to a brighter future, return the investment, and work
toward building the Kingdom of God.
A special thanks to all of you who make up the IHM family. We are grateful
for your support.
God bless,

Endowment Fund Highlights
IHM School Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Immaculate Heart of Mary School Endowment Fund, held
at the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia, was established
to support the general mission of IHM School in addition to
supporting needs-based scholarships; teacher professional
development, continuing education and advanced degree
scholarships; and as specified by the donor in cases of qualified
donations. IHM School received a $1,000,000 gift from an
anonymous donor in 2009 that will roll into the Endowment
Fund in 2019.
Established in 2012, the IHM School Memorial Scholarship
Fund includes one-time or collective gifts of $1,000 given in
memory of someone who has passed away. The individual
is remembered with their name on a permanent plaque
displayed at the School. Once the fund reaches $25,000, a
Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving IHM student.
The family of Renee Richardson ‘88 made the initial gift to
establish this new fund and to encourage others to contribute
in memory of a loved one.

Immaculate Heart of Mary School
The Immaculate Heart
Society for Planned Giving
The Immaculate Heart Society recognizes those who support
the school through a gift to the school that helps a donor’s
financial and estate plans while creating a lasting legacy for
the donor. Examples of ways to support the IHM mission
through planned giving include: naming the school as a
beneficiary in your will, making a specific bequest to the
school, giving a gift of stocks or bonds, the donation of a
life insurance policy, naming IHM School as the beneficiary
of a 401(k) or retirement account, and creating an annuity
or a charitable remainder trust (CRUT). Planned gifts can be
specified to go towards the Endowment Fund or the Annual
Fund.

GRACE Scholars
The GRACE Scholars program provides access to a Catholic school education for Georgia
families who otherwise could not afford school tuition. The program is funded by Georgia
taxpayers who redirect part of their Georgia State income tax to a student scholarship
organization such as GRACE. These donors receive a 100% state income tax credit for their
gift while helping to make a Catholic school education a reality for families in need.
The families and friends listed below designated $132,327 in scholarship aid to IHM in
calendar year 2011. Thanks to their generosity, five additional students received GRACE
scholarships during the 2011-2012 school year, bringing the total number of IHM GRACE
Scholars to ten. These ten students will continue receiving GRACE dollars for the remaining
time they are at IHM School.
Please contact us at the school to learn how you, too, can easily make a significant
contribution to our school through a Georgia tax credit.

Home and School Association
The Home and School Association has, year after year, proven to
be an indispensable part of the school community. The Association
is a volunteer parent organization that offers opportunities
for members of the IHM School community to interact socially,
provides programs relevant to the needs of the school community
and serves as a vehicle for communication between parents and the
school. In addition the Home and School Association coordinates
volunteers, supports teachers and staff and provides supplemental
income to strengthen the financial health of the school.
2011-2012 was a record breaking fundraising year. Thanks to the
efforts of our parent volunteers and support of IHM families,
friends and parishioners, the Home and School Association raised
$127,000, returning a surplus to the school of $53,000 to use
toward operating and capital expenses.
The largest fundraiser was the Derby Day Auction organized by the
Major Fundraising Committee. The event, which transformed the
historic church into a setting reminiscent of an elegant Kentucky
Derby party, netted $81,000. Of these funds, $38,000 will be used
to install a carpool canopy for K-5 students, providing shade and
protection from rain. Additionally, $9,800 was raised through our
Fund a Cause auction-initiative to fund a multi-media sound system
for the gymnasium.
In addition to the auction, the Major
Fundraising Committee raised $11,000
through the QSP magazine sales and
Great American gift sales in the fall. The
Ways and Means Committee sponsored
numerous events and sales including
the Uniform Shop, Pizza DJ Night, the
Advent Bake Sale, school supply packets,
partnership programs and Spirit Wear sales,
which earned the school $25,000.
Home & School Fundraising Net Results
In addition to the new carpool structure
and the multi-media sound system, the
funds raised by the Association helped

Giving Opportunities
Gifts to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School provide
the essential means to carry out our mission and to continually
expand and strengthen the quality of services we provide to our
children, families, faculty and staff. They also provide a taxdeductible contribution for the donor.
Contributing to the Annual Fund
Unrestricted gifts to the annual fund are critical to meeting the school’s most
immediate needs, while providing a tax benefit to the donor.
Contributing to the IHM School Endowment Fund
The Endowment Fund enables IHM School to secure a strong future as we
face the challenges of continuing to provide excellent and affordable Catholic
education. A gift to the endowment will have an everlasting impact on our
school as only the interest income is used, leaving the corpus intact to continue
to grow our future. The primary goals are to provide need-based scholarships
and financial aid and resources for continuing education programs and advanced
degrees for teachers.
Providing Tuition Assistance and Scholarships
Members of our community are encouraged to donate to a Tuition Assistance
Fund, GRACE Scholars and the newly formed Edward Barnsley ’86 Memorial
Scholarship Fund and the Memorial Scholarship Fund. Each of these funds
provides a means for helping families with financial need pay their tuition.
The Immaculate Heart Society
The Immaculate Heart Society recognizes benefactors who remember IHM School
in their wills and estate plans by making a specific bequest to the school.
