Congratulations Ben!
The Chili was a Cookin', Manifold Cookout Tour
Sunday Morning, September 16, six Model Ts assembled at
Raley's. Tour leaders, John & Darren Saylor in their 21
Touring, Gary & Susie Krezman in their 26 Touring, Erik &
Cindy Lindstedt in their 24 Express, Ben Lindstedt driving a
1919 Runabout on his first official tour, Ben Pomeroy & Lona
Mitchell in his 1924 C cab pickup and Junette Avey, Nathan
Cutler and friend in their 1913 speedster. The speedster clutch
was slipping very badly and Nathan decided to take it back.
Junette rode with Gary &
Susie. We discussed our
cooking
methods
and
timing and then headed out
over the Forest Hill bridge,
across the American River
and up the hill into Cool.
Here we put on our chili
and other food. We traveled
up Hwy 193, Sliger Mine Road and into Georgetown for our
next stop. Food was checked and some put on their dogs and
sausages. A few miles down Hwy 193 we stopped to check
food. A passing motorist stopped to tell us the highway was
closed ahead due to a fire at Chili Bar. After some checking
of alternate routes, Ben Pomeroy led us back into Garden
Valley and on to Coloma where we picked up Hwy 49 and
drove on into Placerville. We arrived at the park about 12:30
and hungry! We chowed down on manifold chili, sausage,
salads, fruit and brownies.
After lunch we went on a
docent led tour of the
Joshua Hendy Stamp Mill
and Blacksmith shop.
The docent was very
informative and gave us a
good history of the stamp
mill and process. From
there we toured on to downtown Placerville and Back home on
Hwy 49. We all had a great time. Thanks to all who came.

General Meeting Minutes
Mother Lode Model T Club
General Meeting Minutes,
September 13, 2012
The September 2012 general membership meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm by President Gary
Krezman. The meeting was held at The Sizzler Restaurant, Auburn, Ca. Attendance was very good.
Greeter Report - Junette reported that one guest was present. John Saylor introduced Randy Kellen
from the California Auto Museum.
Randy was our guests speaker tonight. He ran video slide show about the history and purpose of the
museum which was formerly the Towe Ford Museum. Cars on display are grouped by age. Displays
include Ford's first vehicles, and the Models C, B & K to the present day Lamborghini of Malcolm
Forbes. Displays include early garages, cafes, race cars, and alternative fuel cars such as hydrogen
and electric. Randy also reported that the Museum has rotating displays on various automotive
subjects including commercial transportation, foreign cars, and car fads that are changed regularly.
Gary reminded us that our club is a member of the museum and each member gets one free entry
per year. Just show you membership card.
Secretary Report – John reported the minutes of the last general meeting were printed in the
newsletter. There were no additions or corrections. We received correspondence from other area
clubs and notices of events and cars for sale. These were passed around for all to review.
Treasurer Report –In our Treasurer's absence, John read the financial report. Expenses were for
postage and printy of the newsletter and bylaw changes and bank fees. Income was from the Swap
meet deposit return and the engine lift auction.
Activities Report – Our VP, Susie Krezman, gave the upcoming tour run down:
September 16 - Manifold Chili Cook out Tour to Placerville. Meet at Raley's, leave at 9:30 am.
October 11-15 we are invited to the NorCal HCCA tour to Carson City. Steam Train ride and tour

(Minutes, cont'd)
Manifold Cookout Tour - John reported that the tour is all set. Those coming are encouraged to try
cooking chili this year. Bring a potluck side to share and you own table service. Detination will be
Gold Bug Mine Park in Placerville. We will tour through Cool, and George Town.
LOL - Strings in Auburn, September 19, 11:30 am, Mary Lynn Barrett.
Sunshine - Susie reported cards were sent to Lewie Burcher recovring at home from his injured
leg and to. Ron Brown who fell and broke his leg. Ron is recovering at Siena..
Old Business
Trailer - Larry Taylor nothing new to report on the swap meet trailer.
Safe Touring Handbook - Erik Barrett has completed the list of basic tools and spare parts we
should have in our cars. The board will review and put together the handbook.
Gary thanked Larry Taylor for donating an original model T Lift which we auctioned off last month.
Erik told the story about Rogers 27 Pickup being on display at the Auburn Fair. He had originally been
approached while driving his TT dump truck to display it in a special exhibit. When he drove it to the
fair, there was no way it would fit through the only door in the building. Plan B - use Roger's 27
Pickup, which only barely cleared the door.
New Business By-Law revisions are ready to be voted. Ballots were passed out and collected in a sealed box.
Results will be counted by the board and reported at the next meeting.
Show & Tell - Vern showed us a device and asked what is it? He doesn't know. Most thought it
was some type of latch or similar device.
Mike Bashore was volunteered to bring a show and tell for next month.
There being no additional business the meeting was adjourned at 8:04 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
John Saylor, Secretary
Second in the series I am re-running of stories written by Ron Brown Sr. about his experiences "in the old days'especially regarding the Model T since T's were current then".
T DAYS....REMINISCING' by Ron Brown
Auto No.1
My first car - I mean our first car. My younger brother Lowell and I were always in cahoots and did
everything together - "partners". We cut our teeth on Model T parts, as Dad drove Model T's on his
rural mail route and he had literally tons of parts. I am sure he never bought a new Model T, but had a
lot of used ones. He always tried to maintain a spare car ready to go in case the regular one broke
down . He also strived to keep an extra engine and rear end overhauled and ready to go.
One day as Lowell and I lolly gagged around looking for something to do, we had a BRILLIANT
IDEA - why don't we build us a car. We looked around the junk pile where very excess parts were
thrown. Besides some wheels and part of a car body there was an old iron bedstead. It, of course,
had legs and also the leg posts stuck up above the framework making sort of an "H". Geniuses that
we were, we stuck an old wheel on each corner and created a chassis! The remains of a body
(actually the front seat of an Overland body that my oldest brother Gerald had discarded from a parts
car) was installed on the chassis and we had our first car!! There was no way to steer but that was
overcome.
T Diggins',page 4
First, imagine the fit of the wheels on the "axles". They tended to wobble a trifle. However, we just
turned the problem to an advantage. To turn to the left we pushed to the left - the wheels tilted and
she went to the left. To go to the right was the opposite. (Admittedly, we didn't make sharp turns but
we were careful drivers). And too, with no motor but with the enthusiastic help of younger brother,
Ted and several neighbor buddies, we got fantastic mileage.
After several trips around the block our enthusiasm for the system diminished. But a new exciting
world of adventure was consuming us. You guessed it, we wanted to build a REAL CAR! We had
visions of a car that would steer and maybe have tires with air in them!
We pushed old No. I back to the junk pile and dismantled it. Sadly, a great automotive milestone
was lost to civilizations forever. However, we immediately started on auto No.2. But that is another
story!!
More to come … Next Month "Auto No. 2"
