EXPORT MANAGER is a powerful and versatile, multi-user
software package for the IBM AS/400™ that provides overall
management of export business from enquiry stage until
completion. Export Manager is not merely an export
documentation package. It is a business management system that
also produces export documents.
EXPORT MANAGER’s unique design allows user defined export
procedures and management controls to be built into the system
so that export transactions are processed quickly and accurately
even in the absence of trained export staff.
Available stand-alone or fully integrated with proprietary order
processing and financial business software systems, EXPORT

Implementing EXPORT MANAGER results in significant productivity gains by reducing
the manual input of repetitive data and will result in better control of freight and
administration costs by allowing export staff to assemble optimum shipment loads from
goods available for despatch.
EXPORT PRICING
The ability to construct genuine export prices to the terms that the customer wants
(Incoterms) allows profitability to be closely monitored down to individual product by
customer. While many exporters still quote Ex- Works or FOB terms it is true to say that
buyers overseas often prefer to have prices which cover delivery as near to their premises
as possible, Delivered where appropriate. Obviously, the more that is done to make a
potential customer comfortable with the quoted price, the easier it is to do business.

STATUS CONTROL
Tight control of all the complex procedures involved in successful exporting must be a
goal for all well managed companies. It is suprising how many companies routinely send
quotations to potential buyers and the rarely, if ever, follow them up. Similarly,
consignments often miss letter of credit deadlines because progressing and processing
procedures are deficient. A user-defined status tracking and reporting facility within
Export Manager allows these procedures to be formalised, so that they cannot be
forgotten. Reports such as “jobs to be done by the end of the week”, down to individual
user level, help cater for impending holidays as well as more immediate absences.
SIMPLICITY
Although the data base files and the system in general have been designed to cater for
the requirements of all sectors of industry, a facility is provided for the system manager
to define, by individual user, which screens are required and in what sequence they are
to be accessed. No-one need be confused by screens of no particular interest to them.
ACCURACY
A combination of program rules and continuous checking against master information
ensures that all documents and messages produced are accurate.
FLEXIBILITY
Consignment data can be manipulated to optimise the export function while protecting
the integrity of transactions.
SOP/LEDGER INTERFACES
Selected data can be transferred from order processing, and the system may also
automatically update the sales and purchase ledgers. Interfaces from a number of
proprietary main line of business systems already exist.
CUSTOMS ENTRY
The system meets Customs requirements, and automatic computer input to Customs &
Excise can be initiated..

IBM AS/400 DESIGN FEATURES
Multi Company Design. Export Manager allows for separate entry, reporting and
transaction processing by Company whilst sharing master table files including tariff
codes, exchange rates and transaction rules.
Multi Location Design. The system also allows multiple locations for the handling of
different types of traffic (e.g. Original Equipment may be handled differently to spares).
This facility also provides for the establishment of separate base currencies by country
and allows the definition of decimal dot or comma according to local custom.
Customer/Consignee, Product, Supplier, Charge and Carrier master files may be defined
as location specific or system wide.
Ease of interface. Export Manager can be run stand alone or, more likely, as part of an
integrated set of applications. The system will utilize consignee and product information
from other systems and consignment details from a host system for merging with export
specific data held in Export Manager.
AS/400 database. Designed for the AS/400, Export Manager utilises the AS/400 relational
database, which makes for ease of interface and communication with other systems. The
AS/400 database is ideal for interrogating the vast amount of information held by the
Export Manager system. The external relational database means integration to products
such as “Paperfree” is very straightforward.
AS/400 scalability. The AS/400 range of scalability, whilst using a common operating
system, make it ideal as a departmental machine for a multi-site application. The AS/400
will sit comfortably within any LAN or WAN and is particularly able to work in a clientserver environment. The openness of the AS/400 makes it ideal for connecting with other
systems; particularly important for interface considerations. We at TradePoint also
favour the AS/400 for the simple way users can ‘pass through’ between AS/400 systems.
This makes remote support very viable.
