Offered by Massachusetts General Hospital, Department of Radiology and Harvard Medical School HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL Intensive Review in Diagnostic Neuroradiology: Update 2014 May 31- June 1, 2014 O’Keeffe Auditorium, Massachusetts General Hospital This course would benefit any radiologist, neurologist, neurosurgeon, primary care physician, resident, or technologist – at any level of training – who requires a brief but thorough advanced clinical update in state-of-the-art neuroimaging by leaders in the field. Course Director: Michael H. Lev, MD, FAHA FACR Director, Emergency Neuroradiology and Neurovascular Lab, Massachusetts General Hospital Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School Course Director: R. Gilberto Gonzalez, MD, PhD Director, Neuroradiology, Massachusetts General Hospital Professor of Radiology, Harvard Medical School Faculty: Marybeth Cunnane, MD Assistant in Radiology, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary Staff Neuroradiologist, Massachusetts General Hospital Instructor in Radiology, Harvard Medical School Faculty: Pamela Schaefer, MD Associate Director of Neuroradiology, Clinical Director of MRI and Director of Neuroradiology Fellowship Program, Massachusetts General Hospital Associate Professor in Radiology, Harvard Medical School COURSE OVERVIEW Neuroimaging is a rapidly advancing field with frequent new developments in scanning modalities, protocols, clinical indications, patient management, and post-processing techniques. Each of these can result in a lag in knowledge, competence, and performance among practitioners. The educational objective of this intensive two-day course is to provide a comprehensive, focused review of the major basic and advanced principles of clinical diagnostic neuroradiology. Specifically, we will emphasize the management, acquisition, and interpretation of structural and functional imaging studies of the brain, spine, and extracranial head and neck, with a goal towards appropriate application of clinical imaging algorithms, implementation of relevant recent technical advances, and formulation of differential diagnoses. The educational methods used in this course will include didactic lectures, review of evidence-based diagnostic and treatment algorithms, Q&A discussions, and interactive case based conferences. COURSE OBJECTIVES After completion of “Intensive Review in Diagnostic Neuroradiology: Update 2014”, participants will be better able to: 1. Apply emerging technologies in diagnostic neuroimaging to the care of their patients. 2. Select the most appropriate and cost effective imaging studies for specific clinical problems of the central nervous system and head and neck. 3. Provide a full range of diagnostic possibilities for simple and complex imaging problems of the CNS and head and neck. 4. Integrate the most current pathophysiological and pathological concepts into the interpretation of these imaging studies. ACCREDITATION The Harvard Medical School is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The Harvard Medical School designates this live activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada recognizes conferences and workshops held outside of Canada that are developed by a university, academy, hospital, specialty society or college as accredited group learning activities. AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ claimed by physicians attending live events certified and organized in the United States for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ can be claimed through the agreement on mutual recognition of credits between UEMS and AMA, considered as being equal to the European Continuous Medical Education Credits (ECMEC©) granted by the UEMS. One AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ is equivalent to one (1) hour of European EACCME Credit (ECMEC©), therefore up to 15 ECMEC© Credits are available. Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity. ACGME COMPETENCIES This course is designed to meet one or more of the following Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education competencies: • Patient care • Interpersonal and communication skills • Medical knowledge • Systems based practice • Practice-based learning and improvement DISCLOSURE POLICY Harvard Medical School (HMS) adheres to all ACCME Essential Areas, Standards, and Policies. It is HMS’s policy that those who have influenced the content of a CME activity (e.g. planners, faculty, authors, reviewers and others) disclose all relevant financial relationships with commercial entities so that HMS may identify and resolve any conflicts of interest prior to the activity. These disclosures will be provided in the activity materials along with disclosure of any commercial support received for the activity.
