PDP leader seeks relief
for earthquake hit people
Excelsior Correspondent
ANANTNAG, May 12:
District vice president People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) Abdul
Rahim Rather has demanded
immediate relief for the people
of Breng Bala, Tehsil Kokernag
which is adjacent to Kishtwar
district as many houses in this
belt also suffered damage in
recent earthquake which shook
the Chenab Valley.
In a statement issued here,
today the PDP leader has made
an
appeal
to
District
Development Commissioner,
Anantnag to send a team of revenue officers to the area to make
an assessment of the loss and
initiate a relief work in the same
way as has been proposed for
the quake hit areas of Chenab
Valley.
Mr Rather who visited the
villages of Ahlan Bala, Ahlan
Payeen, Traji, Darpora, Ichoo
and adjoining areas of Breng
Bala in Kokernag tehsil said this
belt also suffered a damage in
the recent earthquake as the area
falls very close to the epicenter
of the devastating earth quake
and lies this side of the hill
which divides district Doda
from the Kashmir Valley.
Mr Rather said the quake had
more impact in the upper belts
of Breng, Kokernag particularly
in the areas of Ahlan, Gadole,
Magam, Sundbrari and has left
many houses unfit for living as
situation in these villages is
almost similar to that of Chenab
Valley, he added.

UDHAMPUR, May 12:
General Secretary, Pradesh
Youth Congress RS Pathania
appealed the Government and
the Department of Agriculture
for carving out a comprehensive
policy regarding attracting the
rural youth towards farming,
organic farming, watersheds and
adopting modern and non-conventional techniques of cultivation.
He said this after interacting
with rural youth in various parts
of Jammu province.
Pathania
appealed
the
Government and particularly
ministry/Department of Agri-
culture, for launching of certain
crash measures with a view to
luring the new generation for
fresh ventures and projects in
the field of agriculture.
The youth should be encouraged to rely more on cash crops.
Government has to make a provision for incentives and training programmes for the rural
youth with a view to making
them self-sufficient and selfdependent.
For proper development and
flourishment of J&K, it is most
imperative that majority of the
potential and human resource of
rural youth be utilised and channelised in the field of agriculture, Pathania added.
