LEONARD NIMOY
Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015) first experienced the magic of photography as a teenager in the 1940’s.
With his subjects first being family and friends, he studied at UCLA under Robert Heineken in the
early 1970’s and later received an “Arts in Residence” appointment at the American Academy in
Rome. The exhibit at Alamance Arts, “On the Other Side of the Lens: The Photography of Leonard
Nimoy” featured more than 50 years of his work. The exhibition consisted of 43 different photographs, including 11 from Burlington resident Bonnie Moss who was a fan and friend of Nimoy’s.
Besides his stature as a major contemporary American photographer, he was also an actor, poet,
philanthropist and one of the world’s best loved and respected personalities, Mr. Spock.

VOLUNTEERS
“You are the face of Alamance Arts” we tell our docents as they greet visitors to the Captain
White House. There are over 140 volunteers who give their time and talents to Alamance Arts
throughout the year. Whether it is serving as a docent, pulling weeds in the garden, decorating the house for Christmas or moving pedestals for exhibitions, we could not operate
without these treasured volunteers.
Here are some of the
docents who attended
the training with Bonnie Moss for our Nimoy exhibit.

Also Alamance Arts bestows the prestigious President’s Award for Volunteer Service for 2014-2015 to Lummy Barnes. The immediate past board
chairman has given much to Alamance Arts in the past few years, including her leadership and financial support. She’s even willing to jump in to
