 Very successful year in dining services that has been assessed through surveys. In the
NACUFS benchmarking survey (which includes 650 universities & colleges) and on a
scale of 5.0, Ferris overall score was 3.92 and the national mean score is 3.82. In our
retail area it was 4.05 with a national mean score of 3.87. The retail side is: The Market,
Quiznos and Starbucks. Lori would like to express her gratitude and thanks to the many
loyal faculty, students, staff and community for an increase in sales.
 Dining services plays a significant role in recruiting students (Dawg Days, athletes,
camps and conferences – in helping plant a seed for the young people.
Kevin Jackson
 By proactively managing the custodial supply inventory over the past 2 ½ years in
Residential Life/Physical Plant custodial we have significantly decreased the amount of
inventory by 31% and moving toward our goal of standardizing the chemicals used in our
methods, thus heading in the right direction for a more greener and sustainable custodial
operation. I could not have done this without the cooperation of my staff (hats off to
them)!
 Last August there was a reorganization in Physical Plant in which the Residential Life are
now part of Physical Plant custodial. We developed a Zone cleaning concept. I am
proud to share that even though we had challenges there was no noticeable decrease in
the level of cleaning services provided.
 In February we had another successful Janus training session. With a brand new team
and it was the best session that we have ever had. We trained 10 employees and they all
passed. (Janus means keeper for the gods – so this training is for keeper of the
University’s investments – detail work).
Jon Shaffer
 Residence hall custodians ranked highest in custodial services – 93-94%.
 East Campus Suites was very well received by students the first year. The Hall Director
there has done some good programming. The students have lots of creative use of space
and furniture but have kept it nice.

other Universities call and come and see how our One Stop Shop works. The One Stop
Shop has been in service for about 8 years now.
Denise Grinnell
 IT does a lot of work with other departments on campus like:
o Physical Plant helped them with the power upgrades in the server rooms.
o Physical Plant & Public Safety both helped in adding more cameras on campus

50 cameras up now and 15-20 to be installed by fall.
o Housing with their new on-line room reservation/sign up.
o Faculty and department heads on Work Flow to get grades
added/changed/processed faster. IT will be looking at other areas that Work Flow
will help increase productivity.
o Michigan College of Optometry (MCO) with all their computers, projectors,
phone, etc. in December for the January 2011 opening.
o All faculty and staff got their Lotus Notes space doubled in quota this spring.

President Eisler and Jerry Scoby attended this session to hear the night shift employee’s
observations about Share Your Success.
Greg Vodry
 Expressed what a positive experience he is having working with students on the 3rd floor
of the Business building. These are business graphic design students and he has not seen
any better students to work with, than these individuals. Some of these students have
access to the graphic design lab 24 hours a day.
 Shared a recent piece of information that he was aware of in that Arizona State
University is cutting their PGM program and ASU contacted Ferris to see if we could
take more PGM students. Greg pointed out what a great opportunity this is for Ferris.
Darla Szpiech
 Noted that she and some of her co-workers had just come from an appreciation party they
held for their student employees.
Dan Spedowske

for the University and a great building to work in. We have four student employees and
they are a great help to us. The Optometry faculty and staff are great to work.
 Noted that he was one of the individuals opposed to using student employees but the four
students they have this year are great. One of these students recently got a job at Dow to
start after graduation, and another one just received a new internship.
Jim Moore
 Indicated that employees need to realize that they are often the parents away from home
for students that they interact with.
Dorothy Cline
 Indicated that when books were being disposed of in Arts & Sciences that one of the
students took it upon herself to ship some of these back to Russia indicating that the
books that we were throwing away were better than they had back in Russia.
Elaine, these are comments made but Jerry didn’t get who said them……

Appreciation was expressed to Dorothy Cline for her efforts to recycle plastic bottles and
cardboard in the Arts & Sciences complex. She is so committed to this she even takes
University recycling stuff to the recycling center on her own time.

that “no one is complaining”.

It was noted that Greg Vodry, Brad Moulter and Bob Doering share student employees
and help each other out.

My student employee comes and gives her all.

It is nice to see the students that we work with and interact with blossom during their
