Anthony (Tom) Bosman
Tom was born in The Netherlands near Amsterdam.
He showed an early ability for drawing, his first teacher in this subject was at the age of ten.
Later studied commercial art and worked in this field for several years, painting and drawing in what spare time was available, until
military service.
After this interval and back in Amsterdam, he joined the Free-Academy and studied at the ateliers of local artists.
Travelled Europe, mainly around the Mediterranean, with an interest in arts and architecture.
Came to Australia in 1958 and found work in the building industry in and around Canberra. The first years were very busy but still found
some time to paint and exhibit with the Canberra Art Society.
Building work – engineering, technical drawing and design – were not sufficient to satisfy all creative needs and whenever there was time
it was filled with drawing or painting.
In 1980, moved to Darwin to work on major building projects. At weekends travelled the surrounding area drawing and painting. The next
move was to Alice Springs and Yulara. The red centre and McDonald ranges, Uluru and the OlgaŹ¼s. Those wide and varied landscapes
were a great inspiration.
Then back to Canberra but living in the country. Civil engineering, design work, teaching, and in any spare time, painting.
A move to Pambula in 2007 meant more time for drawing and painting, a beautiful area with much time spent exploring the National
Parks.
