Create a painting that tells a story in terms of prehistoric art
TECHNIQUE
Think in terms of symbolism. Remember that you need a center of interest.
Work out the design on scrap paper. Simplicity is the key in this assignment.
Imagine that your canvas is an ancient surface. Is it a cave wall? Is it an animal skin? Is it an ancient
scroll? Is it on incredibly old handmade paper?
Use the internet and library, and research prehistoric painting techniques such as spraying, stenciling,
and stamping. Preparing the canvas is a work of art too. You are not painting prehistoric art on canvas;
you are showing the prehistoric surface with the art on it. Texture it. Stain it. Collage it.
Overlap. Tie the elements together. Show movement. Tell a story.
Treat the finished painting like an artifact.
