Artistic Director Linda Klassen began her teaching career over 35 years ago and is the owner and Artistic Director of the Parksville Ballet School. She has developed within her school a strong Performing Arts Program which gives intensive classical training year round and includes full training in ballet, national, jazz, tap, modern and musical theatre. Her students have gone on to perform in several major dance companies including the prestigious National Ballet of Canada, Les Grandes Ballets Canadi‐
ens, The Alberta Ballet, The Tampa Ballet of Florida, Ballet British Columbia and Ballet Victoria. Linda received her initial training in Vancouver. As a dancer she received several scholarships to further her training at the Banff School of Fine Arts, Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the National Ballet School. She trained with such dance notables as Gweneth Lloyd, Betty Farrally, Betty Oliphant and Celia Franca. Linda is a member of the Cecchetti Society of Canada and received her teaching qualifications with an Honours standing. She is currently a board member of the Cecchetti Society of Canada. The philosophy of both Mrs. Klassen and her staff is to encourage and to develop through dedication the joy of dance and the beauty of movement that brings a sense of true accomplishment to all dancers. Parksville Ballet School will again be offering a Summer School with outstanding instruction. The program is designed for Pre‐Professional dance students aged 12 and up, focusing on Ballet, Contemporary and Modern technique. Summer School at the Parksville Ballet School is an intensive 3 week dance experience under the guidance of recognized staff in a charming vacation setting. The exceptional guest faculty provides caring and careful instruction conducive to technical and artistic progress. We invite you to join this staff who will bring to the Summer School a wide variety of performing and teaching expertise and who are known for their excellence in dance training. The Summer Dance program is held between the hours of 9:30AM ‐ 4:30PM. Students should currently be taking a minimum of 3 ballet classes weekly and should have a 3 year minimum experience in dance. Classes during Summer School will vary in length dependent on the students' age and level of training. All classes include Ballet, Jazz, Hip‐Hop, Contemporary and Modern. Class size is limited, and spaces fill quilckly, so we recommend registering early to avoid disappointment. NOTE: For special study in areas of particular interest, or for private coaching with one of our guest teachers, arrangements may be made with the Artistic Director, Linda Klassen. PBS reserves the right to alter the schedule or faculty without notice. Younger students who meet the criteria may also be accepted at the discretion of the Artistic Director Our Faculty Sabra Perry began dancing at the Parksville Ballet School under the direction of Linda Klassen, and completed her formal training at the National Ballet School. After performing for two years with the National Ballet of Canada, she relocated to New York, where she studied at the Merce Cunningham Studio, and was a member of the com‐
pany’s repertory group. Ms. Perry went on to perform with the Hartford Ballet and Dances Patrelle, and as a freelance dancer with numerous New York‐based ballet and contemporary compa‐
nies. In 1999, she joined Complexions Contemporary Ballet, under the direction of Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. With Complexions, Ms. Perry has had the honor of performing worldwide in works by Dwight Rhoden, Thaddeus Davis, Ulys‐
ses Dove, Nicolo Fonte, William Forsythe, Jodie Gates, Jae Man Joo, and Juan Rodri‐
guez. She continues to perform as a leading dancer, while acting as the company’s assistant ballet mistress. Ms. Perry regularly teaches workshops and master classes for Complexions. She is also a faculty member at Ballet Academy East in New York, a returning guest teacher at Alabama Dance Theater, and a certified Pilates instruc‐
tor. She holds a BA in dance from Empire State College in New York. Amy Gardner is currently a member of the Edge Dance faculty, teaching both in Calgary and Grande Prairie . Amy committed early in life to exten‐
sive training in ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, tap and musical theater. By the age of 17, she had completed all levels of the ADAPT syllabus in jazz and tap and had passed her R.A.D. Ad‐
vanced Ballet Exam with distinction. Since then, Amy has expanded her repertoire while training in Montreal, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver. Amy spent 2 years in Vancouver where she was a mem‐
ber of “Modus Operandi”, a professional training program directed by Tiffany Tregarthen and David Raymond. Combining her technical training, versatility and unique style, Amy’s achievements as a professional performer and artist include: Top 10 Finalist on “So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Season 2; “The Pinup Saints”, choreographed by Nico Archambault and Wynn Holmes; “collidE” an LA based contemporary company directed by Erica Sobel and “Move: The Company”, a prestigious contemporary jazz company directed by Josh Beamish. “ As Amy contin‐
ues establishing herself as a professional dancer, she also focuses a great deal on her newfound passion for choreography, and to date has been recognized with several awards at conventions and competitions. She has taught many workshops and Master Classes throughout Canada and is also a new member of the “Boogiezone” faculty. Combining her two interests, Amy remains undeterred in her quest to define herself and refine her art. Sara Coffin is a Vancouver based dancer and choreographer. She holds a BFA in dance from BC’s Simon Fraser University and a BSc in Kinesiology. Notable artists Sara has worked with include The Holy Body Tattoo, Mascall Dance, Daelik of MACHiNENOiSY, Susan Elliott, and Lesandra Dodson, among others. Her classes focus on dynamic alignment, kinesthetic and proprioceptive awareness, peer learning and above all creative expression from her students. Sara has extensive knowl‐
edge in anatomy, kinesiology, and bio‐mechanics and incorporates her background in creative ways. She has experience teaching children and adults in contemporary, creative dance, ballet, composition and stretch & strength/conditioning for dancers. Supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, and The BC Arts Council Ms. Coffin creates new work and collaborates on a regular basis. In 2005 she traveled to Vienna, Austria to study with many notable European Artists at the Impulstanz International Dance Festival. Sara has been highly recommended to us for her marvellous training of young, pre‐professional dancers.
