Title: ALLER & NEAR FUTURE!
main idea(s)
notes
The verb aller means “to go”; however, you may remember that it is
also used to express how one is doing.
!
Comment allez-vous? (How are you? formal)
Comment vas-tu? (How are you? familiar)
Comment ça va? (How is it going?)
Je vais bien/ mal. (I’m doing well/badly)
!
It is an irregular verb & the conjugation of aller is:
ALLER: to go
!
!
!
!
!
!
JE vais
NOUS allons
TU vas
VOUS allez
IL/ELLE/ON va
ILS/ELLES vont
*it rhymes with the forms of avoir
* As with all verbs in the present tense in French, there are 3 ways to
translate it into English ex. Je vais = I go; I am going; I do go
Elles vont= They go; They are going; They do go
!
To tell what is going to happen…
To express oneself in the near future (le futur prôche), use a conjugation
of aller + an infinitive.
Ex. Je vais nager = I am going to swim.
Ex. Les sciences vont être ennuyeuses.= Science is going to be boring.
!
*To make the near future construction negative, put ne…pas around the
conjugation of aller (in other words, around the first verb only)
Ex. Je ne vais pas nager.
Les sciences ne vont pas être ennuyeuses.
!
* demain= tomorrow
* prochain(e)= next ex. samedi prochain (next Saturday)
