HOLLAND BUSINESS BULLETIN, São Paulo, Number 29, August 2008 Unilever Sustainability Report Available on the Internet Unilever has just launched its 2007 Sustainability Report, Vitality for a new day, a reflection of its mission to add vitality to people´s daily lives. It is the sixth edition and for the second time based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, a model that ensures transparency. This report was elaborated counting on the participation of different areas of the company and representatives of all units, in an effort towards identifying those actions of highest relevance and holding the substantial elements to the internal and external stakeholders, besides contributing to their planning, internalizing the sustainability values to their business. Message from Mr Kees Kruythoff, President Director I am most pleased in introducing our 2007 Sustainability Report. This report stands for a crucial tool to the responsible entrepreneur management and surely yields from a set of coherent measures implemented by the company, in response to the increased awareness on environmental and social issues all over the world. Above all, it is the natural result of the principles and the mission that guide Unilever since its foundation: the search for vitality to all, through the representativeness of its brands, the importance of its products to the everyday life of millions of individuals of all social classes, and of the responsible work of Unilevers' employees. Finally, vitality that is translated into the pursuit for healthy, productive and sustainable relationships among peoples and organizations. And in that sense, Unilever Brazil has tried to align all of its actions in a long-term strategic planning, where social responsibility and sustainability are the core issues for developing countries like Brazil. Here, I must put on the records my recognition for Vinicius Prianti, my antecessor, whose initiative of employing the GRI principles to the Socio-environmental Report of 2006 was a milestone in the company's path towards a sustainable future. His work - always viewing the company's principles - was much more than priceless: Mr. Kees Kruythoff it was crucial. Aware that no corporation should disregard the fact that its growth and vitality are closely related to its relevance to the society, Unilever is absolutely sure that its links with consumers, employees, suppliers, the society at large and the environment are its strongest support. Through this new report, Unilever not only reinforces its own sustainable path, but also restates its commitment to the vitality of this country and of the planet.
