The 5 Social Media Personalities Script Images / CC License and Media Instructions Hi I’m Katie with the Digital Tattoo project, where we discuss online presence and digital citizenship and how they affect your digital identity. Today we will be looking at the the different kinds of personalities you meet across different social media platforms. Think about a time when you first met someone whom you later friended on Facebook. Your first impressions of this person would be based on a wide variety of things, such as speech, hand movements, facial expressions, swag dance moves, etcetera etcetera... Speech hand movements http://www.arttrav.com/daytrips/italianhan dgestures/ facial expressions swag dance moves (napoleon dynamite, stick man drawing?) napoleon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiAwpYI kRmU Now remember back to when you added that person on Facebook and took a good look at his or her profile. Suspense music clip http://soundbible.com/2046IncomingSus pense.html For some people, nothing too much is out of the ordinary. But for others, things could take a surprising turn like “Wow, really? I didn’t think she was like that” Especially when what they see is THIS: PDA Couple: http://i.qkme.me/3pzv6d.jpg and http://www.plainjanesrevenge.com/wpcont ent/uploads/2010/05/getaroom1.jpg PDA couple profile picture (if possible): No profile pictures.. but http://venturebeat.files.wordpress.com/201 2/03/zooskprofilescreenshot.jpg and http://data.whicdn.com/images/18263573/ Cute+couple+Profile+Pictures.www.Spotd esi.com+%25252823%252529_large.jpg and http://www.buzzfeed.com/mattbellassai/23 reasonswhyfacebookcouplesarethewo rst6z51 Cite Squidbomb Video on vimeo Vaguebooking http://bearsharkaxe.com/wpcontent/upload s/2012/09/attentionwhoring1.png Selfies http://distilleryimage0.s3.amazonaws.com/ e1e5e2443c3211e2af7e22000a1f8ae5_6 .jpg cite Reece Massey Duckface (http://www.rounds.com/blog/wpcontent/up loads/2011/07/Duckfacedouchbag.jpg) can’t find “the original” use this http://www.flickr.com/photos/mhdbadi/8355 281488/ or this http://www.flickr.com/photos/robandstepha nielevy/558724746/ Admit it, without the likes of Facebook and Twitter, your impressions of certain people would be different. But before we really go into why that is, let’s take a look at five prime examples of Facebook personas. 1. The Sports Fan Thanks to this friend, you’ll never miss a Sports Fan: http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/s single bit of news about the Canucks. Or the Whitecaps. Or the Yellowknife curling club. This friend will be sure to keep you in loop for live updates across multiple social media platforms. The Animal Lover This friend loves animals. Every other update from them is either a pic of their cat or a youtube video of a minipig coming down the stairs. Of course anyone with a soul like animals, but this friend could lay off the constant updates. You don't want to be known as the Sarah McLachlan of Facebook. That is why as users of social media, we must be aware of the things that we put up on our profiles. A balance between the different kinds of information and media you post, and how often you post them, is important in maintaining a good digital identity, as that in turn goes to show that, despite your abnormal fascination for grumpy cat, you too are involved in other diverse interests and activities. You know, like a real human being. But of course Ideally, the best profile would be one that reflects who you really are as a person. So I guess if you really were that into grumpy cat, well...it’s all up to you. What personas can you identify among your friends online? Do you think these personas accurately describe their complete “real life” personality? Probably not. Now imagine how your friends see you? How would they judge your profile?
