The TOWN OF HOPKINTON, MASSACHUSETTS, hereinafter referred to as the “Owner” or the
“Awarding Authority”, acting by and through its SCHOOL COMMITTEE, invites sealed bids for
construction of CENTER SCHOOL CHAIR LIFT, 11 Ash Street, Town of Hopkinton,
Massachusetts 01748, in accordance with the Bidding and Contract Documents prepared by
GORMAN RICHARDSON LEWIS ARCHITECTS, INC. 77 Main Street, Hopkinton,
Massachusetts 01748 dated May 7, 2013.
The Project consists of: repairs and improvements associated with installing a new wheelchair
lift, new gypsum board partitions, cutting and repair to existing gypsum board assemblies, new
floor finishes in the area of the new wheel chair lift, flashing at and cutting opening in slate roof,
painting, new doors, modifications to existing fire detection and protection systems, chair lift
shaft vent, new lighting and power, control and signal work related to the new wheelchair lift and
all other improvements indicated on the Contract Documents.
The work is estimated to cost $150,000.
Bids are subject to M.G.L. c. 149 Sections 44A to 44J inclusive and to minimum wage rates as
required by M.G.L. c. 149 Sections 26 to 27H inclusive.
General bidders must be certified by the Division of Capital Asset Management (DCAM) in the
following category or work: General Building Construction and must submit a current DCAM
Certificate of Eligibility and a signed Update Statement (CQ3).
Filed sub-bids for the trades listed below will be received until 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 4,
2013 and publically opened forthwith.
General Bids will be received until 2:00 P.M., Tuesday June 11, 2013 and publically opening
forthwith.
Filed sub-bidders must be DCAM certified for the trades listed below and bidders must include a
current DCAM Sub-Bidder Certificate of Eligibility and a signed DCAM Sub-Bidder’s Update
Statement.

WHEELCHAIR LIFT
All Bids shall be delivered to: HOPKINTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS, 89 Hayden Rowe Street,
Hopkinton, MA 01748, and received no later than the date and time specified above.
General bids and sub-bids shall be accompanied by a bid deposit that is not less than five
percent (5%) of the greatest possible bid amount (considering all alternates, if applicable), and
made payable to Hopkinton Public Schools.

Bid Forms and Contract Documents will be available for pick up on Wednesday, May 15, 2013
between the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at B.L. Makepeace, 77 Main Street, Hopkinton,
MA 01748 (1st Floor) (508-544-1610).
There is a plan deposit of $75.00 per set payable to Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects.
Deposits may be electronically paid or must be a certified or cashier’s check. This deposit will
be refunded for up to two sets for general bidders and for one set for sub-bidders upon return of
the sets in good condition within thirty (30) days of receipt of general bids. Otherwise the deposit
shall be the property of Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects.
Bidders requesting Contract Documents to be mailed to them shall include a separate check for
$75.00 per set for UPS Ground ($100 per set for overnight) payable to B.L. Makepeace, Inc. to
cover mail handling costs.
General bidders must agree to contract with minority and women-owned businesses as certified
by the State Office of Minority and Women Business Assistance (SOMWBA). The amount of
participation which shall be reserved for such enterprises shall not be less than seventeen
(17%) percent of the final contract price, including accepted alternates, of which at least twelve
(12%) percent shall be for minority business enterprises and five (5%) percent shall be
reserved for women-owned business enterprises.
A Pre-Bid Conference will be held at the Center School, 11 Ash Street, Hopkinton, MA 01748
(Project Site) on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 3:30 P.M. at which time the bidders will be invited to
visit the project site with the Architect and the Hopkinton Public Schools Director of Buildings
and Grounds- Al Rogers, 508-497-9870.
