The contest:
Aphrodite, Hera and Athena were arguing about “who was the fairest of them all”
~they asked Zeus to decide but he very wisely declined but sent them to Earth to find Paris.
~Paris was the son of the Trojan King Priam. (Priam had sent Paris away from the city to herd sheep because there was a prophecy that said Paris would be the downfall of Troy)
~ Paris was to judge beauty and was offered three bribes to help him “choose”
Hera- Lord of all Europe and Asia.
Athena- Lead the Trojans to victory against the Greeks
Aphrodite- The most beautiful woman in the world would be his.
~ Being the typical guy he chooses Aphrodite
Helen (Daughter of Zeus and Leda) was most beautiful woman (Greek)
Every man wanted to marry her so the all made a pact that no matter who got her, all would defend her no matter what.
~Menelaus ( brother of Agamemnon) got her.
Aphrodite leads Paris to Sparta where Menelaus and Helen take him in.
~Menelaus leaves Paris alone with Helen and he steals her away back to Troy.
According to the pact, all Greek soldiers band together to go fight the Trojans.
Battle rages for nine years swinging back and forth. Even the Gods are divided and helping each side.

In the tenth year there was a quarrel. Between the great soldier Achilles and the King
Agamemnon.
~Agamemnon had stolen away the daughter of a friend of Apollo and kept her as a slave girl.
~Agamemnon refused to return her so Apollo rained down fire and illness on the
Greeks
~Achilles convinces all the Greek leaders that Agamemnon is the reason they are being punished and are losing the war.
~ Agamemnon agrees to give the slave girl back but says he will have a replacement....... Achilles, slave girl.
~As retribution, Achilles refuses to fight and the Trojans start to win.
~Greek leaders beg Achilles to fight but he refuses blaming it on Agamemnon.
~They go to Achilles’ best friend Patroclus and convince him to steal Achilles’ armor, put it on and go to the battlefield. Just the sight of his armor would scare the Trojans away and it works accept for............ Hector.
~ Hector attacks and knocks the helmet off Patroclus. Hector realizes and quickly kills Patroclus.
~ Achilles comes back fiercer than ever. The tide shifts
~He finds Hector and they have the big showdown.
~Achilles kills Hector and then chains his feet to his chariot and drags Hector’s body around for several days.
~Hector’s father bows down to Achilles and begs for his son’s body back. Achilles feels pity and returns body for proper burial.
~Battle rages on.
~Apollo helps guide and arrow from Paris to the one spot that can kill Achilles.... His heel
( Achilles’ mom dips him into the river Styx to make him immortal but she is careless and the
water does not get under her hand where she is holding him.... around the ankle.)
~After Achilles dies the Greeks start to lose again and they would have lost except
Odysseus comes up with a plan............ The Trojan horse.
