Jacob Helton and Desiree Maynard February, 8 2011 Mr. Parker Story and Characters 1. Compare and contrast Achilles and Hector. What do they have in common? How do they differ? Achilles and Hector are very alike, yet very different. They both are great warriors of their own nations, yet Achilles has a best friend and Hector does not. 2. What flaws do each of the characters exhibit? Achilles- he was enraged by his best friend’s death. Hector- he was very full of himself and thought he could beat Achilles. Patroclus- he thought that he could trick Hector into thinking that he was Achilles. Hera- she interferes too much with the lives of the Trojans and the Greeks. Aphrodite- she tries to seduce Ares into fighting for the Trojans, as she also tries to interfere with love lives of others. Ares- he is all brawn and no brain, he is easily seduced by Aphrodite, thus, not being able to pick his own side. Zeus- he is easily seduced by Hera, also not being able to pick his own side. Priam- he was too protective and worried over his son. Andromache- this character didn't really present any flaw to the play. 3. What are the role of women in Dis/Troy? The roles of women in Dis/Troy are that their decisions drastically changed the outcome of the war. 4. What is the importance of dreams in the story? This sent a message to Achilles, thus, stalling him in joining the war. 5. Why does Patroclus volunteer to fight Hector in place of Achilles? Patroclus thought that if he went and fought Hector in place of Achilles in his armor, Hector would be frightened and weakened in battle. 6. Why does Achilles choose to fight Hector? Achilles chose to fight Hector because he was enraged at the fact that Hector killed his best friend. 7. Describe the relationship between Aphrodite, Ares, and Hera. Aphrodite and Ares are dating while Hera tries to break up their relationship. 8. How does Priam convince Achilles to return Hector's body to him? Priam tells Achilles that if he is to return Hector's body, he will in return bury Achilles' own body.
