The UCF/LSCC Concurrent ASN-BSN Program provides a dual-enrollment opportunity, allowing students to seek their Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) from LSCC, and their BSN from UCF, simultaneously. The LSCC courses are held live at the LSCC Leesburg campus; UCF courses are initially held live at the LSCC Leesburg campus, but gradually transition to online programming. The LSCC ASN is completed over four academic semesters, not including summer. Throughout these four semesters, the student is also enrolled concurrently in UCF RN-to-BSN courses. Once the student earns their ASN from LSCC, they are eligible to sit for the NCLEX exam and seek employment. After passing the NCLEX exam and becoming a licensed Registered Nurse (RN), the student can complete the remaining courses for the UCF BSN. The student generally completes the UCF BSN within two or three semesters after completing the LSCC ASN degree. Minimum Requirements for UCF/LSCC Concurrent Program Application: • • • • • • • • • Demonstrate an overall UCF cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater. Demonstrate a TEAS Exam score of 78.0 or greater (adjusted individual total score). Be accepted to the University of Central Florida and meet the General Education Program, Foreign Language, Gordon Rule and Nursing Pre-requisite Requirements. Application is made through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at http://admissions.ucf.edu/apply/transfer/. The student should declare their UCF major as nursing. Reactivate with UCF, if you previously applied to UCF but did not enroll in any courses. You must meet the specified criteria on this page in order to reactivate. https://apply.ucf.edu/forms/forms/Reactivation Students that previously attended UCF should contact the University Registrar’s Office to complete the readmission process. Meet the UCF Foreign Language Requirement. You must apply and be ACCEPTED as a student at both UCF and Lake Sumter. It is the student’s responsibility to submit an application to both institutions, pay necessary fees, and ensure that transcripts have been received prior to the application deadline for the nursing program. Although the student may not have received formal acceptance letters from LSCC or UCF by the deadline for the nursing application, the student file must be complete in order to render admission decisions, prior to consideration for the UCF/LSCC Concurrent Program. When can I apply to the UCF/LSCC Concurrent Nursing Program? • UCF’s application windows and deadlines for the Concurrent BSN program are published at http://nursing.ucf.edu/admissions/ApplicationDeadlinesUG.asp • You must request a UCF Concurrent nursing program online application from UCF (detailed instructions on how to do this are enclosed); this can be done up to two weeks prior to the application window opening. The UCF Concurrent BSN nursing online application will be accepted during the published application window; UCF will not accept applications after the deadline has passed. 3 What is the TEAS and where can I take it? • The TEAS is the Test of Essential Academic Skills. It is similar to the ACT exam and includes questions on reading, math, science, and English language usage. There are 170 questions and it takes approximately 3.5 hours to complete. Locally, it can be taken at the UCF testing center, Valencia College, Daytona State College, Seminole State College and Brevard Community College, as well as at any other ATI-approved testing centers. LSCC will offer limited test dates on their campus. The cost is typically between $50-$65. You can find more information at www.atitesting.com • The UCF College of Nursing allows a student to take the TEAS three times in a calendar year, with 30 days between attempts. The most current version should be taken and the student should put their best, adjusted individual total score and testing date on the UCF BSN application. • The UCF College of Nursing must receive a copy of your TEAS score report before you submit your UCF Concurrent BSN application. Students must request an official TEAS score report be sent to UCF College of Nursing by ATI. It is recommended that the student verify receipt of their TEAS score report with the UCF College of Nursing, prior to the UCF/LSCC Concurrent Program application deadline. TEAS score reports will not be accepted after the deadline. What is the basis of applicant selection for the UCF/LSCC Concurrent nursing program? • Each applicant competes against the other applicants in terms of overall cumulative GPA, TEAS score, and course pre-requisite GPA. May I take general education, foreign language, or pre-requisite courses along with concurrent program nursing courses, once I am accepted into the program? • No. All requirements must be completed prior to starting the concurrent program. This includes dual majors, minors, and certificates. Does the program offer a flexible schedule for classes? • No. The program is a lock-step program with a fixed schedule. • Nursing program hours are primarily day, but may be altered by faculty, room, and clinical-site availability. • Students must have flexibility in their schedules, as they may find themselves needing to be available nights and weekends, in addition to days and evenings, especially in regard to clinical placement. Should I attend a UCF Nursing information Session prior to application? • Yes. While attendance at a UCF Nursing Information Session is not required prior to applying to the nursing program, students will find the information to be invaluable during the application process. • Punctuality to these sessions is essential. You will NOT be permitted to come in once the session has started. Do I need to have a completed AA degree prior to applying to the program? 4 • No, but it is strongly recommended. If you will not complete your AA degree prior to the beginning of the concurrent nursing program, you must meet UCF’s general education requirement (36 specific credit hours). Will my financial aid be affected by being a UCF/LSCC Concurrent Student? • Yes. You cannot receive financial aid from two institutions, so it will be necessary for you to accept financial aid only at LSCC. • Financial Aid will be calculated based on your LSCC credits first, then it will be added to, based on your UCF credits. • Occasionally, students have experienced delays with disbursement. For this reason, students should be prepared to pay their UCF tuition, if aid is not received in a timely fashion. Is chemistry required for admission into the nursing program? • Not necessarily, but it is highly recommended. Students who have a background of general chemistry tend to perform much better in the nursing program. Can I apply to the program if I am an international student on an F-1 or J-1 VISA? • No, the Concurrent nursing program cannot accommodate international students on an F-1 or J-1 VISA because the UCF curriculum progresses to online formatting, which falls outside of the F-1 VISA criteria. How am I notified of the admission decision for the Concurrent Program? • Admission decisions for Concurrent are emailed to the email address that the student provides on their UCF online nursing application within 6-8 weeks after the application deadline of an admission cycle. • The decision will reflect one of the following: provisionally accepted, waitlisted, or that the class is full. • Students who are waitlisted could receive notification that their status is changed from waitlisted to provisionally accepted up until a few weeks prior to the beginning of the semester the student applied for. Waitlists are not retained from admission cycle to admission cycle; applicants must reapply for consideration. • Students will also be notified of their acceptance to the ASN program, as per the policy of that program. Can I transfer between UCF Nursing Programs or Program Locations? • Transfer between campuses or UCF nursing programs is not permitted. UCF Concurrent BSN Program Requirements 5 1.
