Lawrence Sanders Award in Fiction honoring Isabel Allende Presented by the FIU Creative Writing Program and Department of English Isabel Allende is one of the world’s most celebrated and successful women writers of serious fiction. Since 1982, her 19 books have sold more than 57 million copies in 35 languages and include the award-winning The House of the Spirits, Of Love and Shadows, Paula, and Daughter of Fortune. Her stories are forged from her reservoir of family memories and the rich history, culture and myths of Chile and Latin America. Combining fantasy and realism, her work is noted for its panoramic range of time, places, people and emotions. In 1992, following the untimely death of her daughter, she created the Isabel Allende Foundation which supports the empowerment of women and girls worldwide.
