MEDIA INFO & TECHNICAL RIDER BOB SHEPPARD/JASPER SOMSEN QUARTET Bob Sheppard – Sax & Woodwinds Jasper Somsen - Double Bass BIOGRAPHY BOB SHEPPARD Over the course of an extraordinarily diverse career that has made him a first call musician in the realms of jazz, pop and the studio worlds, multi-woodwind specialist Bob Sheppard has always let his array of saxophones, flutes and clarinets do the talking. Superstar names highlight his resume, and jazz critics have been raving about him as both a sideman and leader for years, but such praise is simply a byproduct of Sheppard´s years of steady work and dedication to his craft - a tradition that continues on Close Your Eyes, his latest release as an artist and is the debut CD for the BFM Jazz label. Sheppard has been a steadfast member of the Billy Childs Ensembles and the Peter Erskine trio for over a decade. Additionally over the years, he has toured with Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs, and brought his diverse talents to more recent performances with James Taylor, Natalie Cole and Queen Latifah and most notably with the legendary Joni Mitchell on her current four-disc set and her 2007 Grammy-winning, Shine. He also played on a live studio video with Mitchell and Herbie Hancock. Other distinguished collaborations include eight years with Freddie Hubbard, and tours and performances with Chick Corea´s ensemble Origin, Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Horace Silver, Lyle Mays, Nat Adderly and Toshiko Akiyoshi/Tabackin Big Band. Some of his more significant recording credits include Scott Henderson, John Beasley, Mark Isham, Otmaro Ruiz, Bill Cunliffe, vocalist Kurt Elling, Marilyn Scott, Michael Franks and Diane Reeves, while including pop icons Steely Dan, Rickie Lee Jones, Rod Stewart, Randy Newman and Stevie Wonder. BIOGRAPHY JASPER SOMSEN Dutch double bassist & composer Jasper Somsen (1973) studied Jazz and Classical double bass at the conservatories of Utrecht and Amsterdam, The Netherlands. During his career Jasper has performed with a.o. Joey Calderazzo, Enrico Pieranunzi , Bob Sheppard, Gabriele Mirabassi, Toon Roos, Karel Boehlee, Hans van Oosterhout, Bert van den Brink, John Engels, Ferdinand Povel, Yuri Honing, Rita Reys, Eric Vloeimans, Jeroen van Vliet, Nancy Marano and singer/songwriter Lori Lieberman. As a bandleader/producer he released two highly acclaimed albums with the Jasper Somsen Group: "Dreams, Thoughts & Poetry" (The Music of Enrico Pieranunzi - 2010) and “Sardegna” (2013) - Challenge Records International. Jasper can be heard at more than 20 CD and DVD productions in both Jazz, Classical and Film music. Many of these albums he was involved both as a bass player and (co)producer. He performed in a.o. Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Italy & Sardinia, Poland and Finland. Currently he’s the regular bassist in the Karel Boehlee Trio and the Toon Roos Quartet. Besides a performer Jasper Somsen was appointed as a (guest) teacher at the conservatories in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and Arnhem at both Jazz and Classical double bass departments. Also he’s the programmer of the international concert series Jazz in Wageningen, in his hometown Wageningen (The Netherlands). Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band and Octet, Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, Steve Swallow's Quintet, Jon Cowherd’s Mercy Project, the Ben Allison Band and the John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet. Steve also leads his own trio and has released four recordings as a leader. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Larry Koonse – Guitar (West Coast) Immediately after graduating Larry toured extensively with the John Dankworth quartet, traveling all across the globe. He is member of the Grammy nominated Billy Child's landmark chamber sextet, featuring Brian Blade. He has toured and recorded with Mel Torme, Terry Gibbs, Bob Brookmeyer, Billy Childs, John Patitucci, Warne Marsh, Gary Willis Cleo Laine, Jimmy Rowles, Lee Konitz, Larry Goldings, Alan Broadbent, Ray Brown, Bill Perkins, Toots Thielemanns, Rod Stewart, Clay Jenkins, Linda Ronstadt, David Friesen, Bob Sheppard, Charlie Haden, Scott Colley and many other jazz artists.. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Academy of Music, the Sydney Opera House, and has been a featured soloist with a.o. the L.A. Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Anthony Pinciotti – Drums (East Coast) Based in New York City, Anthony performs and tours extensively with many of the most vital and forward looking musicians on the scene today. Past work includes tours and recordings with a.o. Lee Konitz, Jonathan Kreisberg, Jack Wilkins, Don Byron, Fred Hersch, Tony Malaby, Marc Copland, and Billy Childs. Mark has taught extensively in the United States and Europe. He was a faculty member for the California Institute of the Arts, the Tavira Jazz Workshop in Portugal, the School of Improvisational Music (SIM), and is currently teaching privately out of the City College of New York.
