Center for Statistical and Mathematical Computing Mathematica Student Version ® Installation Instructions Installation Minimum system requirements: Windows • Windows ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista • 256 MB RAM minimum • 2.5 GB hard disk space Macintosh • Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 • 256 MB RAM minimum • 2.5 GB hard disk space Linux • Linux x86 (Red Hat 9.0 or equivalent) • 256 MB RAM minimum • 2.5 GB hard disk space Starting the Installer Windows: If Autoplay is enabled, it will open the Mathematica CD window. Click the “Install Mathematica to a hard disk” button. If you have disabled Autoplay, you can start the installer by running the setup.exe executable in the Windows folder on the CD. Macintosh: After inserting the CD the Mathematica CD Window appears. Then drag the icon to the location you want Mathematica installed. Linux: Once the CD drive is mounted and the CD is inserted, run the installer with the command $CDPATH/Unix/Mathinstaller. Here $CDPATH is the path to your CD drive, for example /mnt/cdrom. After this point differences between the installations on different platforms are minor. The installer prompts you to ask your preferences for the installation. When it asks for license information you can choose to enter the license information at that time or later. There is a two week grace period during which you can run Mathematica without registration. However, after this you must register with Wolfram to continue to use the software. Many users find the website http://register.wolfram.com the easiest way to do this. You will need a MathID, which your computer will generate, and the following lincense number: L3067-9102. After you register you will receive a password once we have verified your student status. At the Wolfram site please use the same IU email address you used to sign the license agreement. We will not send license information to non-IU e-mail addresses. Please, remember that your license entitles you to a single Mathematica installation.
