wiTECH Internet Bandwidth Requirements Reliable internet connection speed and consistency are essential for the wiTECH System (wiADVISOR/wiTECH Diagnostic Extender) to work properly at your dealership. It is recommended that the download speed of your Internet Connection be a minimum of 1.5Mb/sec (Megabits per second) for the first wiTECH device/tablet. Each additional wiTECH device/tablet will require an additional 0.5Mb/sec of available bandwidth. The better the connection is, the faster the data will be communicated to the application. It is also advised that the upload speed be a minimum of 1.5Mb/sec for the first wiTECH device/tablet, and 0.5Mb/sec for each additional device/tablet. Most Internet Service Providers (ISPs) advertise their internet connection speeds as Mb/sec or Mbps (Megabits per second). However, when testing your Internet connection, sometimes the results are displayed as MB/s (note the capital B) which means Megabytes per second. Please note there is a big difference between a lowercase b and an uppercase B. If the results are displayed as MB/s, then the number has to be multiplied by 8 in order to obtain the speed results in Mb/sec. For example, if the speed test resulted in a speed of 1.5MB/s (note the capital B), then we would calculate as follows: 1.5 x 8 = 12. By this calculation, the Internet connection speed is 12Mb/sec (12 Megabits per second). To test you internet connection speed, please visit http://speedtest.dcctools.com/ and click the “BEGIN TEST” button. Two other popular speed test websites are www.speakeasy.net/speedtest and www.speedtest.net. Both websites already display the results in Mb/sec (Megabits per second). As resources on the network are used, bandwidth availability can be reduced. We recommend performing a network speed test from multiple machines simultaneously to capture true network speed. Speakeasy.net: The Speakeasy.net speed test lets the user choose the target location of the test. It is recommended that the location of the target server is closest to the location of the dealership. After choosing a location, the speed test will automatically begin. The results will be displayed once the test is completed. Speedtest.net: Speedtest.net automatically chooses the test location for you. To perform the test, users will click on the “begin test” button in the middle section of the website. The results will be displayed once the test is completed. Note: Streaming music or videos will severely negatively impact your dealership’s Internet connection speed. Version 1.3 Page 1 of 1 Date: 16-May-2013
