the Summer Approval Form. These forms are available in
Simon 12 or from our website:
http://www.olin.wustl.edu/bsba/srv/geninfo/forms.cfm

with you to your scheduled advising appointment.
As a general rule, Olin encourages students to take all of their
business courses at Washington University. Under certain
circumstances, permission may be granted for a student to take
a course at another institution. In order for consideration to be
given, a syllabus from an AACSB accredited institution must
be submitted for review to your business advisor. This review
process takes about two weeks to complete.
If approved, you must earn at least a grade of “C” in order to
receive the credit for this course.
All transfer credit should be approved before leaving for
summer break. Failure to secure proper approval may result in
enrolling in a course that will not be acceptable for transfer
credit.
ENROLLMENT POLICIES FOR OLIN BSBAs
All BSBA students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units
each semester. The maximum number of credits is 21 units.
Olin undergraduates will be assessed a full-time tuition charge
for their course of study for eight semesters of enrollment
regardless if the student is enrolled in fewer than 12 units.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS

ADVANCED NON-PROFESSIONAL ELECTIVES
Advanced non-professional electives are defined as any nonbusiness course numbered 300 or above excluding pass/fail and
University College courses. An advanced elective may also
satisfy a distribution requirement.
Any 300-400 level Liberal Arts course may count towards both
your advanced non-professional electives and a distribution
requirement. Any non-business course that satisfies a
requirement for one of the interdisciplinary business majors
may also satisfy one of your advanced non-professional and/or
distribution requirements. The credits, however, would only
count as non-professional units.
UNIVERSITY COLLEGE COURSES
Enrollment in a University College course is strictly limited.
You may enroll in one University College course per semester
providing your academic advisor has approved this course
- 192 -
prior to your registration. University College course work
may only count as a general non-professional elective.
Business, foreign language, COMM 220 and COMM 351, and
any day division equivalent course may not be taken through
University College. Students may enroll in a real estate course,
but these units will not count towards the 120 units needed for
the BSBA degree.
BSBA IB MAJOR POLICY FOR 2015 CLASS
The BSBA Faculty approved a new set of requirements for our
International Business (IB) Major which are in effect for the
2015 Class.. With these new changes, the IB major will also
be classified as a secondary major. Therefore, to major in IB
for the 2015 and 2016 Classes, a student must also major in
one of the primary major listed above.
PASS/FAIL COURSE POLICY
BSBA MAJOR POLICIES
You are allowed to enroll in one pass/fail course each semester.
You must select your one pass/fail course in early
September. You have until mid-November to switch this
course back to a grading option. Refer to the Academic
Calendar in the front of the book for the specific dates for these
transactions. Only non-business courses may be taken
pass/fail. A pass/fail course will count only towards your
general non-business electives. Calculus, English Comp. 100,
distribution requirements and advanced electives must be
taken for a grade.
MAJOR DECLARATIONS
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
All professional courses must be taken for a grade Business
courses may not be taken on a pass/fail or audit basis.
Students have flexibility in choosing when to enroll in some of
their required classes. Deciding when to complete a specific
requirement depends on the student’s interest and the particular
prerequisites for each course. Students should meet with their
advisor to develop a plan for completing their degree
requirements in a timely and appropriate manner.
MEC 290 POLICY
If you have completed Econ 1011, you must take either Econ
4011 or MEC 290 to complete your microeconomics
requirement. Econ 4011 will satisfy our MEC 290 requirement
but the credits will count as general education.
SUBSTITUTION COURSE POLICY
Students who substitute a non-business course for a business
requirement will still be required to enroll in another business course
as a minimum of 55.5 credits must be earned in Olin.
INTERNSHIP POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR
JUNIOR AND SENIOR OLIN STUDENTS
Olin juniors or seniors who have completed the core
requirement and one advanced elective in the appropriate
major field may apply to receive credit for internship
experience. Students must work under the direction of a faculty
member to complete an academic paper/project and complete
an Internship Petition form that must be submitted to their
academic advisor by the end of the second week of the
academic semester.
With the exception of the International Internship Programs, a
maximum of six credits of internship course work may be
applied towards the BSBA degree. With the exception of the
International Internship Programs, these credits will not apply
towards a specific business major.
Petition forms are available in Simon 12 or on our website.
FINANCE 343
As a BSBA student you may enroll in Finance 343. However,
this course will not count towards your 120 units for your
degree nor will it factor into your WU GPA.
MAJORS
Students may choose to major in a particular field of business
or may choose not to declare a major. Students may also major
in more than one field of business. Students may choose from
the primary majors listed below:
Accounting
Economics and Strategy
Entrepreneurship
Finance
Healthcare Management International Business*
Marketing
Organization and Human Resources
Operations and Supply Chain Management
Effective for the 2014 and 2015 BSBA Classes, an Olin
student may earn a maximium total of two business majors (or
one business or one non-business) and one minor (outside of
Olin) or one business major and two minors (outside of Olin)..
BSBA students must declare their business majors by October
15th of their junior year.

MANAGEMENT COMMUNICATION B53 201 MGT
Managers who write and speak effectively excel in business
leadership. Persuasive and authentic communication is not
only useful in advancing your business career; business
employers also consider communication skills to be the most
important attribute in people they hire.
Effective
communication involves more than mastering technical writing
and presentation skills. Successful communicators use critical
thinking to assess business scenarios and the audience who will
hear or read a message; they craft communication in order to
attain targeted results. In this course, you'll have the
opportunity to become a more polished communicator as you
work toward the following goals: Applying rhetorical
principles to management communication; Using critical
thinking to analyze the audience, the organizational
environment, and problems before choosing communication
strategies; Implementing principles of plain language and
effective design; Collaborating with colleagues to create
effective group projects; Representing a company or product in
a "crisis communication" press conference. Priority for
enrollment will be given to BSBA students. 3 units.
