The Nancy School of Geology (ENSG) and GeoRessources lab from Université de Lorraine, France Invites applications for a Professorship in geomaterials and geometallurgy The Nancy School of Geology (ENSG) is currently seeking excellent candidates for a permanent professorship in geomaterials, to start in September 2016. The Nancy School of Geology is part of the University of Lorraine and is a French “grande école d’ingénieurs”. The University of Lorraine represents the second largest centre of geosciences research in France with over 450 personnel and a research budget of over 15 million €. Founded over 100 years ago, the Nancy School of Geology produces over 120 Masters‐level graduates each year in applied geosciences and engineering (http://www.ensg.inpl‐
nancy.fr/). Admission is through a highly competitive national examination ensuring that students are strong in quantitative sciences as well as geosciences. This prestigious school has developed strong partnerships with national and international industry in all fields of applied geosciences. Profile Candidates should have an outstanding research and teaching record in geomaterials, which may be extended to geometallurgy, mineral processing, mineral characterization, or applied mineralogy. The selected professor will join a team of 40 academic staff. Teaching duties for a full Professor are 192 contact hours annually (including lectures, practical and field camps). The professor will be expected to participate in administrative tasks of the School. Teaching is in both English and French as many classes include international students. Roles and responsibilities of Professors are given (in French) at: http://www.enseignementsup‐recherche.gouv.fr/cid22705/professeur‐des‐universites.html The appointed professor will have to develop high level and innovative research programs focused on industrial utilization of geological materials, geometallurgy, mineral processing. Innovative research on the application of geomaterials and/or on the beneficiation of non‐conventional and low‐grade resources can be developed by combining mineralogical, geochemical and physico‐chemical approaches. Expertise in extractive metallurgy, i.e. in hydrometallurgy will be appreciated. He (she) will be integrated in a research team dedicated to development of knowledge, technology and engineering of geomaterials properties, processing and utilization. The research team is involved in several European and international scientific networks, thus an experience of candidate in international collaboration is strongly recommended. The team has a semi‐industrial pilot plant of 2000 m2, which is used to validate and perform scaling from the laboratory to industrial pilot scale. The team “Valorisation of resources and residues” is part of GeoRessources lab (http://georessources.univ‐lorraine.fr/). Created in 2013, GeoRessources is a multidisciplinary laboratory devoted to the field of geological resources ‐ their exploration and exploitation, including recovery, treatment and recycling stages, and their impact on society and the environment ‐ with 60 researchers and academic staff, 44 administrative staff and technicians and 75 PhD students and post‐
doc researchers. Contact The online application will be open from 26 February to 28 March. As the application procedure for University posts in France is complex, candidates are asked to contact, as soon as possible.
