Content
Purpose of module:
To introduce students to studying business management in higher education by understanding
some theoretical concepts which relate to the internal working of an organisation, but will differ
between organisations. As part of this there is a need to consider how such concepts impact on
individuals and teams within the workplace.
The syllabus content will typically include:
- organisational structure - various types and organisational charts;
- culture - development and key theories;
- motivation - various content and process theories, whether money motivates, the
psychological contract, motivation theory in practice and mission statements;
- power and control - sources and types power, control through power.

Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students will be expected at threshold
level to:
1.
with tutor support, critically evaluate different types of organisational structure
and culture;
2.
apply organisational behaviour theory to explain and analyse the behaviour
of people in organisations and the impact of this upon organisational
performance;
define and explain the types and sources of power in organisations and
examine its effect on people, performance, and organisation.
