(PLEASE READ REVERSE SIDE) 14, 18, 15 Video/Handout (14, 18, 15) REQUIRED MATERIALS • General Zoology Laboratory Guide, 14th ed., by Lytle & Meyer. • Dissecting Kit - available at campus bookstore, needed by March 16-19; if assembling your own kit, be sure to get a scalpel, probes (both sharp and blunt), good scissors (both fine and blunt), and forceps. Nasco Lab Supply in North Modesto (near the CHP office at the Kiernan exit off 99) also offers kits, at a better price than the bookstore. • Nitrile gloves - must be worn while dissecting or handling any preserved material. • Must sign safety training sheet. Awareness of the lab hazards listed therein and adherence to the stated guidelines is a requirement for participating in this laboratory. LAB EXAMS AND GRADE • • • • • • • • The lab room will be available on most Fridays (~10 am to ~4:30 pm) to give you an opportunity to review the class materials. If materials are damaged or disappear, these open lab hours will be cancelled. Exams will consist of objective questions in the form of lab practicals. Spelling counts. Lab exams must be taken as scheduled. Students must take their lab exams in the lab sections that they are scheduled in. There are no make-up practicals. Lab scores will be combined with the lecture scores in determining your overall grade for ZOOL 1050. Lab is worth a potential total of 175 points. There may be Extra Credit opportunities in lab. Cheating in any way on any exam or assignment will result in a grade of F in the entire course. IMPORTANT COURSE CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT: Beginning Fall 2009 the Department of Biological Sciences will introduce a new two-semester Introduction to Biology series for majors. At that time, ZOOL 1050/1052 and BOTY 1050/1052 will be discontinued. It will be required to have completed both ZOOL 1050/1052 and BOTY 1050/1052 to have the introductory requirement met. Any student having only one of these courses completed will be required to take both of the new courses. Fall 2009 is the last semester that ZOOL 1050/1052 and BOTY 1050/1052 will be offered, so be sure to put in the effort required to pass both of these classes on your first try.
