In class, we will be viewing the documentary/film, Exit Through the Gift Shop as part of our Pop Art Unit.
You will be required to take notes and turn these in with your paper. These notes can be written on the
back of this handout.







Pre-film screening:
How do you define art?
What is your opinion of graffiti? Art vs. Vandalism? Why?
What is your opinion of pop art? Original vs. unoriginal? Why?
How does creativity fit into pop art if many images are “borrowed” from somewhere that already
exists?
Post-film-screening:
Has this film changed your opinion of graffiti in terms of “vandalism” vs “art” ? WHY? Explain…
Has this film changed your opinion of what art is? WHY? Explain…
What is something you learned from this film that you did not know before?
POP ART REFELCTION PAPER (100 POSSIBLE POINTS)
After we view the film, you will be required to write a 2-3 page (typed or very neatly handwritten) reflection
paper. Your grade for this paper will be determined on quality, insightfulness, and substance. If your
paper has many major grammatical and spelling errors, that make flow and readability difficult, you will be
docked points. The focus of your paper should be on 1 or more of the following topics:
A. Your opinion of the film based on the notes you took
a. Pre and post screening of the film
B. Your opinion of the ongoing Pop Art Controversy
a. Questions & Criticism surrounding autheticity, copyright/plagarism, originality, royalties
paid… and of course… is this considered art?
b. Justification & Validation includes progression, transforming & revolutionizing art and our
ideas about what art is, accessibility, breaking down barriers, creating discussions and
critical thinking regarding social issues

the notes and slideshow about Pop Art, and your own original and personal opinions. Therefore,
this paper should only display your own individual thoughts, ideas, questions, reflection, and
