THE MODERNIZED PROGRAM IN ELECTRICAL –ELECTRONICS ENGINEERINGMAJORING IN POWER ENGINEERING
The Modernized Program in Electrical- Electronics Engineering (MPEE) is one within
an ambitious project initiated by the Ministry of Education and Training of VietNam (MOET)
aiming at world-class engineering education in selected universities in VietNam, in which the
HoChiMinh City University of Technology (HCMUT). MPEE is based on the academic
system (curriculum, syllabi, acdemic regulations…) currently applied in the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering- the Illinois University at Urbana Champaign (ECEUIUC) .
Within a strategy of international integration of the Vietnamese system of universities the
Modernized Program is launched and carried out so as to apply the modern teaching
methodology currently in partner American university by providing student with modern
scientific and technical knowledge, professional skills, as well as a good command of
computer techniques and English in his (her) field of interest, while helping him (her) to
develop analytical, synthesis capabilies and facilitating his (her) integration into the highly
competitive and fast changing working environments in the future.
UIUC established in 1867 is now ranked among the American 1-15 top universities by its
prestige in undergraduate, graduate education and researches. With more than 2900
professors and teaching faculty, 29 000 undergraduate and 11 0000 graduate students, UIUC
has been proving its world-class system of higher education through its research achievements
of 11 Nobel prizes and annual operational budget of 1.4 USD billions.
The current curriculum in ECE-UIUC is aiming at future scientific and technical
developments in the 21st century, with strong emphasis in arousing student’s creativity sense
from the very beginning semesters by intensifying curriculum content with computer
engineering and system techniques.

THE MODERNIZED PROGRAM IN ELECTRICAL-ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
THE HOCHIMINH CITY UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Academic system
The MPEE is carried out at the Faculty of Electrical- Electronics Engineering (FEEE-HCMUT) with a
curriculum following that currently in use in ECE-UIUC. The program is strongly supported and
administered by MOET with financial budget taken from the national project of higher education
modernization. All the courses will be delivered in English by selected lecturers trained in ECE-UIUC
and from overseas. In addition, ECE-UIUC professors will be invited to deliver selected intensive
courses every year, during the summer time.
The curriculum, syllabi and theory and laboratory courses in use within MPEE are from the kind
permission and support from ECE-UIUC. In addition, the OCW from MIT will also be used in terms
of reference materials in classes.
Academic results assessment
Student’s whole education process is continuously evaluated through intensive mid-term tests
and final test, homeworks at the end of each chapter, capstone projects, seminar presentations
and ended with the final project.
Training duration and Degree obtained
The academic program will be organized into 8 semesters in 4 years of a total of 142 credits.
Students graduating from the MPEE will be conferred with the degree of “Bachelor of
Electrical-Electronics Engineering in Modernized Program” by HCMUT- VNU.
