CHIP Time Sensitive Grants FY16

A. KEY DATES

September 10, 2015 FOA posted; earliest submission date

September 2015 – May 2016 Applications accepted on a rolling basis (note: mechanism will close when available funds have been distributed)

October 2015 – June 2017 Possible award period

B. PURPOSE

UConn’s Center for Health, Intervention, and Prevention (CHIP) offers Time Sensitive Grants for faculty and researchers at the Storrs and regional campuses who are CHIP Affiliates. These grants will provide immediate funds for the study of novel, often unexpected, situations that present themselves and allow researchers to capitalize on windows of opportunity to examine these situations as they naturally occur

(e.g., health impact of an oil spill; health effects of new legislation on food waste in school lunch programs). Applicants must establish that an uncommon and scientifically compelling research opportunity is available and that immediate funding is needed to support the proposed research. Due to the time-sensitive nature of this mechanism, applications may only be submitted once to this FOA.

C. FUNDING AVAILABILITY AND REQUIREMENTS

Awards ranging from $500-$2,500 are available in this competition.

There are no deadlines. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, and it is anticipated that a total of $6,000 will be awarded during FY16.

Any external grant proposal that is written with support from a Time Sensitive Grant must be submitted through CHIP.

Funds may be used to support routine research-related expenses such as: o Payment of participants o Copying of research material (e.g., questionnaires, consent forms) o Specialized equipment (e.g., digital recorder) o Paying research assistants with specialized skills necessary for the proposed project

(e.g., fluency in Spanish).

Funds may not be used to support the investigator’s salary, travel to conferences, routine office equipment (e.g., computers), or student tuition and/or fees.

CHIP may request modifications to the budget during the review process.
