HALIFAX LONERGAN CONFERENCE 2009 SAINT MARY’S UNIVERSITY July 6th to July 10th 2009 GLOBAL FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION There will be a Lonergan Conference at Saint Mary’s University (SMU), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, July 6th 10th, 2009. The topic is "Global Functional Collaboration". Offers of papers are invited, but they need to be attempts - however feeble at this stage to implement particular functional specialties. There is to be a single workshop on the main topic conducted by Philip McShane. Furthermore, opportunities for consultation and collaboration will continue through and beyond the following weekend until Wednesday July 15th. Sunday evening, July 5th, an informal gathering will be arranged for those already arrived. Friday evening, July 10th, there will be a social gathering. The five days of the conference have a common rhythm: 10.00 a.m. - 12.30 a.m., with suitable breaks, there is to be a workshop on Collaboration guided by McShane. Set strategic topics will be dealt with in a flexible sequence, but the dominant mood is to be the search for implementation. 2.00 p.m. - 4.00 p.m. These times will be devoted to short oral presentations of papers on functional collaboration, followed by discussions regarding issues of implementation. The evenings - after a flexible common meal - are to be open to more elementary discussions on the genesis of precisions with regard to implementations. The results of the week will be carried forward as a context for the drive for effectiveness of collaboration in the working days to follow, looking towards the decade 2010-2020 in its potential leads towards the third millennium as it edges forward into the third and fourth stages of meaning.
