Belen MainStreet Partnership recently hosted the New
Mexico MainStreet Preservation Institute in downtown
Belen. MainStreet Directors, NMMS Directors and
many locals attended the day long event. Former Mayor
Ronnie Torres led a walking tour of Belen’s historic
downtown and through two historic homes on Dalies.
This is the first Preservation Institute to be presented in
New Mexico. Belen MainStreet Partnership is actively
rehabilitating its downtown district with several grants
from PNM, New Mexico Historic Preservation and
other entities. Call Rhona at 505-864-8091 if you would
like to be a part of this exciting partnership!!!

PRESIDENT’S THOUGHTS
Dear Chamber Members,
Happy 4th of July!!! Wow we are half way through the year already!! Where
does the time go? June was a very busy month for us here at Your Chamber!
The June luncheon was very well attended as usual! Our scholarship winners
were there to accept their awards, and those awards were presented by
members of Tim Lardner’s family! They are such a wonderful part of our
chamber still to this day and we appreciate them so much!! PNM also
awarded two local businesses with their Energy Saver Awards. Also a big
thanks to the Holiday Inn Express for hosting this event and of course to
Jake and Andres in Bosque Farms for the delicious barbeque meal!! Please
remember to join us for our July After Hours Event to be held at Cetera
Financial on the 10th at 5:30pm! This is a great opportunity to network with
other local businesses in the area and promote your business. We look
forward to seeing you there!! Plans are in the works already for our New
Educators Luncheon to be held on August 7th at Tierra del Sol. The theme
this year will be Rise to the Top, complete with plenty of hot air balloons!!
Have you seen the progress being made on the old City Hall building?? Take
a drive and check it out!!! It’s looking wonderful, thanks to a grant from PNM
and the hard work of Belen Main Street Partnership
We are only 3 short months away from Rio Abajo 2014…sponsorship forms,
and vendor forms are already available!! Get yours in as early as possible,
vendors will be assigned their spots on a first come first served basis!!
Bands and performers are being contacted, we will also have our Classic Car
Show, Poker Bike Run, Arm Wrestling, and many, many more fun events!!
Keep an eye out for more information!!
Your Networking President,
Anna Duran

CenturyLink to expand high-speed Internet service to customers in
Belen
BELEN, N.M. – As part of its ongoing commitment to its customers in Valencia County,
CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) is expanding its high-speed Internet (HSI) service to residential
and business customers in Belen, offering connection speeds up to 40 Mbps.
CenturyLink is working with the Federal Communications Commission to help expand broadband
availability to local communities. The company accepted approximately $1.3 million in Connect
America Fund monies to bring broadband to high-cost, rural areas in New Mexico and is also
investing significant amounts of its own capital to fund this broadband expansion.
“We’re excited to be able to bring accelerated broadband speeds to 222 additional homes in the
Belen community,” said Valerie Dodd, CenturyLink general manager for New Mexico.
“CenturyLink is focused on expanding our local broadband service because we recognize the need
for higher speeds for local residents.”
CenturyLink’s HSI service gives customers a private, direct connection to the company’s national
network and is designed for consistent broadband speeds that enable customers to watch movies,
stream videos, play online games and send large files.
“I am pleased to see this type of continued investment from CenturyLink in the Belen area,” said
Mayor Jerah Cordova. “These types of investments will help to better educate our children, grow
our businesses and provide more economic opportunity for our citizens.”
CenturyLink HSI prices start at $19.95 per month when bundled with the company’s voice
services. Depending on where customers live, a variety of speeds may be available. Customers can
order service or check service availability in their area by calling the CenturyLink retail location in
the Coronado mall at (505) 883-0341.
