Proud proud proud!!!! PAGE 3 www.belenchamber.com PRESIDENT’S THOUGHTS President’s Letter September 2015 August started out pretty calm as Cindy and I took our first vacation in almost a decade. On the trip to California and then meandering back driving all the sections of old Route 66 from Barstow, CA to ABQ we took over 2000 pictures of historic communities that we will use to help identify visual and physical attributes that could lend themselves to improving our streetscapes for our downtown businesses. So look forward to a Chamber presentation of what we discovered in the upcoming months. I think you will see some ideas that truly can make our Belen streetscapes more appealing to both our residents and those passing through. Then, while still on the road, Rhona shared the onset of the battle over Belen and Bethlehem with those who apparently prefer living in the darkness. Thanks also to all of you who kept us up to date on a daily basis. A particular thanks goes out to the on line version of the Valencia News Bulletin. We moved to Belen in large part because of its Christian heritage, so well represented in the Belen town name and its Spanish translation. I was sorry to have missed the community gathering in support of the Nativity while on assignment in Denver but couldn’t have been more proud of the more than 1000 that turned out for that event and of the supportive messages delivered there. God continues to bless our little community. Looking in a different direction, the Belen Main Street Partnership, our partner in developing tourism and economic growth for Belen, launched the Belen is NM True I-25 Billboard the third week of August. It is located on I-25 northbound, approximately 2 miles south of the South Belen Exit. It is a traditional hand painted billboard that just isn’t produced anymore and is truly a work of art. I asked Rhona to share a picture of it with you all in this newsletter. Lastly, please don’t forget Rio Abajo Days is rapidly approaching and Rhona and I want to be sure you all plan to attend this very entertaining street fair on Sept 26th. More on that in Rhona’s letter to you. A customer perception is his reality, and a first impression is important because it tends to linger in a customer’s memory. Ditto if that fist interaction is on the phone, via chat, or via mobile. 2. Impressions before the first impression matter. Of course, there is no “before the first impression.” But the first impression is very likely happening before you realize it: how you’re portrayed online, how your grounds look well before the front door. This year our events and locations for activities will be expanded from what they have been in previous years. We anticipate that the crowds for vendors will be bigger than ever before and that you as a vendor will see increased traffic to your booth. We invite you to come to Belen and join us at the Rio Abajo Day Street Festival as a vendor on Saturday, September 26, 2015. We will be organizing all food booths together as a food court and non-food vendors will all be together, as well, located close to the tents, carnival and gazebo areas.
