College P o s s i b l e is a nonprofit
organization making college
admission and success possible for
low-income students through an
intensive curriculum of coaching and
support. Our services include:
When Victoria was in high school, she knew about College
Possible before it knew about her. As a sophomore, she watched
a friend a year ahead of her go on multiple campus visits, take
numerous practice ACTs and participate in many volunteer
opportunities. She knew she needed to join, and says it has been
one of the best decisions she has made in her life.

Victoria joined College Possible her junior year, in 2009. This
spring, Victoria will not only be graduating from the College
Possible program, but also from St. Norbert College, where she
will earn her bachelor’s degree in sociology.
guidance in the college transition
Thanks to an amazing welcome and show of support in Chicago,
we’re laying the groundwork to serve students in the Windy
City this year!
“In communities across the country, our partners have proved
that with the right support, a college diploma can be a part of any
promising low-income student’s future,” said College Possible CEO
and Founder Jim McCorkell.
“Over the past year, after many conversations with Chicago’s
education, philanthropy and community leaders, we came to the
conclusion that College Possible can help create better futures
for Chicago’s students. We are thrilled to be able to help more
students begin on the path to college graduation this fall.”

Leader Feature: Dr. Heather Hackman
Equity and Social Justice Consultant and Educator
Challenges us all to Open Ourselves to Ideas, One Another
“When we talk about social justice issues, people worry that it’s
all going to be about guilt and shame and blame. There’s
no time for all that. It’s not about guilt and shame and
blame, it’s about waking up, catching up and showing up.
“We can then show up with dignity and grace. We can’t keep
leaving the room when conversations about race or class or
gender oppression or any other form of oppression happen.”
Learn more about Dr. Hackman at HackmanConsultingGroup.org
“We need to wake up to the inequities in our society and catch
up by educating ourselves more deeply about social justice issues
(particularly the ones where we are in the dominant group). That is
what social justice education offers - a gentle but persistent call to
‘wake up.’ Only then can we learn what we need to learn in order to
bring about social justice in our society.
“Real change is about waking up,
catching up and showing up.”

on her college graduation this spring

“College Possible meant having someone
to make sure I was on the right track and
doing what I needed to do to graduate from
college.”
-Sukaina Yacoob
Neither of Victoria’s parents went to college, so she was
determined to get the most from her college experience. Just
attending and graduating wasn’t enough. She is the Vice President
for St. Norbert’s Student Government Association, a mentor for
a multicultural freshmen group on campus, an after school
program assistant with the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay
and an intern with the Green Bay Police Department.
Victoria hopes to make a difference in the world by becoming an
FBI agent in the future.

School of Languages.
Victoria will graduate from St. Norbert College this May
with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.
She credits College Possible for not only getting her to and
through college, but for believing in her the whole time.
“I would like to thank College Possible and their supporters,” she
says. “My parents did not graduate from college and I can’t wait
for them to hear my name as I walk across that graduation stage.”
“

Nearly 15 years ago now, I was inspired by you to start

than a few years old, in fact) but I wanted more students like
me—armed with determination and talent but not much in the
way of financial resources—to get to college. I knew
you’d be hard-working and bright and ready for all
the challenges in front of you.
