Your College Experience Navigating eCollege Your guide for online and blended classes. START AT THE DEVRY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK HOME PAGE (HTTP://NY.DEVRY.EDU) OR AT HTTP://MY.DEVRY.EDU LOGGING IN: • The username is your DSI number • The password is your year and month of birth (YYYYMM) • If the password doesn’t work, there is an option on‐screen to have a new password sent via email. • After logging in, scroll down to “Your Course List” and click on the name of the class to enter the shell. NAVIGATING THE ECOLLEGE SHELL: • Navigate through the class using the bar on the left, broken down by weeks. Remember that you must keep up with the class – assignments, discussions, etc, can only be completed during the current week and cannot effectively be made up. Each week runs Sunday to Sunday. • If your course uses an e‐book, access it from the “Syllabus” link. • Click on the current week to bring up the readings, assignments, and discussions. • Read the description of the week in the frame on the right; then click on each content item and complete it (read the readings, complete assignments, participate in discussions, etc.) THREADED DISCUSSIONS: • Participating in threaded discussions is not optional! Pat of your grade is based on activity in these discussions. Check your syllabus for the grading guidelines. • The professor may post a question or topic, and you will be asked to provide your observations, opinions, or research. • You can click on the thread to read the full message, or click on “expand all” at the top to view all of the messages in full. • Under each message, you can click on “Respond” to reply. • Students can (and should) reply to each other, as well as the professor. • Remember to be professional, and respect the ideas of others. • Check in on the discussions multiple times per week, on a minimum of three non‐
consecutive days, such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. ASSIGNMENTS: • Assignments or quizzes will often be posted for the week – these assignments may be due during the in‐class meetings! • For Blended classes, there will almost always be an assignment due at the first in‐
person class meeting! • Some homework may need to be submitted to the Dropbox. You can access this by clicking on “Dropbox”, which appears at the top toolbar. • Some assignments or handouts may be available in the Doc Sharing folder, which can be access by the same toolbar as the Dropbox. VIEWING INTRO TO E COLLEGE: • Click on http://www.devryu.net • Go to the Practice Course Module (login: yolc; password: yolk) FIRST TIME LOGGING IN
