What is this course about? 1.1 Course description Ongoing changes in technology, customer needs and growing competition creates a highly dynamic business environment today. To be successful, therefore, businesses need strategic leadership. In particular, managers have to address the link between strategy formulation and implementation. Achievement of organisational goals and objectives is not possible without being able to anticipate and accommodate changes in the various environmental components and the incorporation of strategic leadership. You will create a report that will detail your understanding (as CEO) how strategy has assisted you to model / develop a successful enterprise and how you have applied these elements to make your decisions to date. Your report will be supported by credible theory/literature, relevant research and evidence from Capsim. Product: CEO Strategy Report Format: This is a 1500 word report. You will have completed a minimum of four rounds in the Capsim simulation. To plot your course of action in these three rounds you have played, you will have used / applied Strategy in some form. (NB: wealth creation in this case study will be measured by 3% accumulative sales growth over the eight rounds a current financial ratio of 1.25 in Round eight). Your goal is to demonstrate your understanding, through your own experience, those factors that are most important to achieving a strong competitive position in a particular market. Capsim is an online business simulation. You must operate Capsim for eight rounds finishing in one of the top three positions in your industry: register online at http://www.capsim.com/ in the SimID provided by the Course Coordinator complete the orientation program operate your new venture for eight rounds with 3% accumulative sales growth rates (across the eight rounds) and finish with a current (financial) ratio of 1.25 in round eight, with a final balanced scorecard rating of greater than 700/1000 Product: Computer simulation. Format: This is an Individual Assessment. Criteria operate the new venture successfully over eight rounds evidence of analysis of information provided in the Capsim strategic reports evidence of deductive reasoning in the decisions made to advance each round successfully evidence of innovative practice from the approach employed to successfully capture market share demonstrated proficiency in strategic planning and implementation operation as evidenced by successful growth of the simulated enterprise Generic skill assessed Skill assessment level Problem solving Graduate Applying technologies Graduate 5.3 Additional assessment requirements SafeAssign In order to minimise incidents of plagiarism and collusion, this course may require that some of its assessment tasks are submitted electronically via SafeAssign. This software allows for text comparisons to be made between your submitted assessment item and all other work that SafeAssign has access to. Eligibility for Supplementary Assessment Your eligibility for supplementary assessment in a course is dependent of the following conditions applying: a) The final mark is in the percentage range 47% to 49.4% b) The course is graded using the Standard Grading scale c) You have not failed an assessment task in the course due to academic misconduct Page 5 Course Outline: MGT322 Advanced Strategic Management 5.4 Submission penalties Late submission of assessment tasks will be penalised at the following maximum rate: 5% (of the assessment task’s identified value) per day for the first two days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. 10% (of the assessment task’s identified value) for the third day 20% (of the assessment task’s identified value) for the fourth day and subsequent days up to and including seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. A result of zero is awarded for an assessment task submitted after seven days from the date identified as the due date for the assessment task. Weekdays and weekends are included in the calculation of days late. To request an extension you must contact your course coordinator to negotiate an outcome. 6.
