A CPM matrix or Competitive Profile Matrix identifies a firm’s major competitors and its
particular strengths and weaknesses in relation to a sample firm’s strategic position. The CPM
matrix resembles an IFE matrix with a comparison to other organizations and/or companies. Just
as with the EFE matrix, the weighted scores in a CPM matrix have the same meaning. A CPM
matrix focuses on success factors that are rated based on strengths and weaknesses. The CPM
matrix help an organization or a company to progress their internal strategic operations to better
the organization or company.
