Dear Educators and Students, The Muhammad Ali Center is currently accepting new applications for the 2012-2013 “Muhammad Ali Center Council of Students” (MACCS) youth leadership program! The program is open to all high school students in grades 9-12. Students must be available to meet two weekday evenings per month (day/time TBD) at the Center, will complete two service learning projects, and will participate in a youth-led Youth Rights Conference and the end of the school year. Our “MACCS” are a diverse group of young leaders, committed to improving themselves and their communities through the practice of Muhammad Ali’s Six Core Values: Respect, Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Spirituality and Giving. As a youth-led organization, these dynamic students make decisions that guide the course of their service work and leadership development. Participants will meet twice monthly with Ali Center staff to learn more about civic engagement and to dialogue with their peers on social issues of their choosing. Team-building, and the exploration of key topics such as violence prevention, sustainable development , peace, social justice and many others, are on the agenda each month. MACCS will also come in contact with local leaders in diverse fields to learn first-hand from their experience and expertise. In addition, the MACCS program fosters civic and community engagement, and connects participants to volunteer service opportunities. Students will complete two service learning projects and will work together as a team to contribute meaningfully to our community. Equipped with these skill sets, the MACCS are poised to identify social and community problems, voice their concerns, and act effectively to create resolution and change. Participating in the MACCS program opens many doors for students, including networking with local leaders and organizations, and the possibility of a paid summer internship opportunity here at the Muhammad Ali Center for one of them. Please share the attached application and our contact information with any interested students, and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Sincerely, Erin & Taylor Erin E.
