Examples of a grocery/market, restaurant or pharmacy I would like to see on Ayer Road: Open-Ended Response Deli Whole foods CVS Gibbett Hill Grill/Fihlo's/Bertuccis weird. I just answered that question previously. A CVS would be nice Trader Joe's, a byob restaurant, small cvs Fine Butcher Shop that has produce, fresh bakery type grocery store. Something like and Idlywilde CVS, Trader Joes, Starbuck's, Sorrento's, Mango Grill, Chiinese/ethnic food trader joe's, gentrified farm stand (a la Idewilde Farms) small restaurant or bakery or fish market/butcher A *unique*, locally-owned, small capacity restaurant would be OK. Any chain restaurant (or chain business in general) would open the door to a half-dozen more. Instant sprawl. NO WAY! Likewise stand-alone pharmacies, which inevitably sell out to chain pharmacies - so a "nice little one" would be a ticking time bomb. Market Basket No TARGET Donelan's in Littleton Devens Bar and Grille CVS Ayer Road NONE Trader Joe's Whole Foods CVS type of pharmacy TARGET NOT A GIANT CVS Supermarket: Medium size Pharmacy: Walgreen Restaurant: Bertucci CVS, whole foods, Trader Joe's Trader Joes Devens Grill Carlson's orchard farm stand had take out and was a small grocery store. Did not stay in business. Town center store had a pharmacy. Did not stay in business. There are CVS's in Groton, Littleton, Acton. I see more Harvard people in "Not your average Joe's" in Acton than any where else. They'l l probably still go there even if there is a restaurant in town with a liquor license. Farm stand/store, like the old Carlson's. Donelan's or Trader Joe's would be too big for a town like Harvard. They would destroy the "feel" of the town, create traffic congestion, require large trucks for deliveries and draw people (cars) from other towns. Panera's, local market, produce market (similar to Wilson's in Lexington, but smaller). cvs whole foods Small-scale. NOT a chain. Whole foods. Harvard Market expanded and covered. Chez Henri or New orleans?Shaker styled restaurant. I would only like to see a Trader Joes or idawillde typy market-NOT the big chain stores None I would be opposed to a pharmacy since most of these are larger chains. The types of stores you see in Concord center The only phamacy I could se on Ayer Rd is one that would be incorporated into a grocery store ( ie Hannaford) Although I would prefer to avoid grocery stores and/or pharmacies on Ayer Road, if the EDAT concludes that such development could help maintain high quality schools and other public servcies, I could support the location of a small grocery store or pharmacy on Ayer Road. I would also like to see a small sit-down restaurant that serves alchohol in town . . . something like a local pub. No more business on Ayer Rd. Roche Bros, Donelans CVS No resturant As stated previously, a small, family style/locally owned restaurant. Vegetarian/healthy foods would be great! The only type of grocery store which we could use in this area would be a Trader Joes. We have many other grocery stores in Groton, Littleton, Leominster... I would only choose a pharmacy as a last resort. No market on Ayer Rd. We have farm stands during growing season and we have four supermarkets within a quick drive. Restaurant if not a chain, small so not a huge impact in one small footprint that would impact neighbors with not only previously mentioned concerns, but also smell. Locally owned, with hours not too late. If pharmacy is to be built- not a 24 hour operation, and no drive thru. already mentioned Idyllwylde CVS maybe, but NOT all 3 (restaurant, grocery & pharmacy) None The world does not need another Walgreens or CVS located on Ayer Rd. There is a pharmacy in the center of Ayer. A grocery store would bring too much additional traffic to an already congested road. The least offensive business of the three named would be a restaurant, but not a chain restaurant, and not like the fast food already located on the Ayer rotary. No in favor of commerical building listed above Idlewilde, Acton, Gary's, Groton, 31 Main Street, Ayer, Not Your Average Joe's, Acton, If you are thinking of a grocery, why not something more like an Idlywild? As for a pharmacy, why? There are tons of them in Ayer, Littleton, Groton, etc, all within a short drive. Regarding restaruants, please no more fast food! None 31 Main St, Ayer the old Carlson's Very small, with farm fresh produce, reasonably priced. These would be great but I don't think we'll ever see them. We are too small and our zoning is too restrictive: Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Harvest Coop, Not Your Average Joe's, Cosi, Panera Bread, Starbucks. About pharmacies, I don't like CVS but it's what there is, unfortunately, and I don't think they go in for smaller-scale facilities. Idylwilde, Bolton Orchards Sweet Bites/ Savory Lane (West Acton) Gibbet Hill There are LOTS of these establishments in nearby towns. Harvard does not have a large enough population base to support these, and they will need to drive customers from other towns which is not desirable. It would be really nice to have a Whole Foods, or even a Trader Joe's. I don't want any chain restaurants. I locally owned restaurant would be great. I would enjoy the convenience of a pharmacy. None Donelan's, Trader Joes, Whole Food 99 Restaurant, Appleby's Walgreens Very open minded but not high end - affordablity important Whole Foods or Trader Joe's - Organic foods As stated above. i.e. Trader Joe's, Whole Foods (the size in Cambridge - Alewife) Restaurant like Philo's in Groton - bring your own wine, etc. Modified liquor license. A small town privately owned pharmacy like in West Acton. I can't picture a CVS or Walgreen's on Ayer Road. Donelans in Groton, Trader Joe's, CVS, locally owned restaurant that serves beer and wine and has sit down and take-out. How about a locally owned bakery (NOT DUNKIN DONUTS), with bagels, pastries, cakes, etc. How about a small/medium whole foods or an upscale grocery store.... the one in Ayer is terrible! A small CVS would be nice or incorporate the pharmacy w/in the grocery store. Now if you did whole foods, you could have a bakery and pharmacy all in one. I have been to north and south street, Hingham, Ma. I think if there was a way of following that example. If it has to be anything ...make it SMALL!!!!! Idlywyle, Savory Lane deli A grocery store type farm stand similar to Bolton Orchards or Idylwilde Farms. No Trader Joes or Donelans. A Bolton Orchard or Idylwilde Farms type store might be acceptable if it is kept small and is not a chain. Idlewilde Farms, Trader Joe's Not Your Average Joe's, Fihlo's (Groton) CVS Trader Joes, Starbucks, CVS I was sad to see the Garrick's Harvard Pharmacy go - a local non-chain pharmacy would be nice (if the business model still works). You already identified the type of market (Groton Donelon's or Trader Joe's) that would be nice. Market Basket, Wall Greens, Small family-owned restaurant Donalons or Shaws CVS Any Restaurant Idylwilde 31 Main in Ayer, Scupper Jack's, Kimball's Coffee Shop CVS Roche Bros, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods CVS Idlewild Whole Foods bread bakery--Iggys, Hi-Rise Think local! donelans cvs 31 main - ayer gibbett hill grill - groton filhos cucina - groton bertuccis CVS. Donelands (Groton) or Trader Joes. or Idlewylde. Restaurant -- like Gibbets Hill in Groton, Acton Jazz Cafe, Don't want anything large-scale or part of a chain or franchise. Markets- Shaw's Whole Foods Trader Joe's Local delivery restaurants- pizza, asian CVS or Medicine Shoppe CVS pharmacy Any establishment which would be appropriate in size and design. I would not like to see a CVS or Walgreens. Please read my previous comments about serving local residents, not a regional audience. Example: A Donalan's would match pretty evenly against all the other perfectly good grocery stores around; Whole Foods would probably draw a far more regional audience. Example of a restaurant: Monsoon Indian Bistro Medicine Shoppe in Ayer or the pharmacy (sorry I forget the name) in West Acton on Rt. 111 (Mass. Ave). Both have plenty, the pharmacists come to know you. Privally owned, small Whole Foods! A locally owned and managed restaurant similar to JP O'Hanlons of Ayer or O'Connors in West Boylston. I'd prefer none of these except small local stores. Most pharmacies now have drive-through windows, which are unappealing. If chain pharmacy like CVS, should adhere to a different standard for construction and signage and parking than what they typically do. Business should be closer to roadway - no parking in front. Lots should be designed with green space and trees and shielded lighting. Signage should be minimal. Examples might best be seen in town centers with strict zoning, like Concord, Winchester, Nantucket, Newburyport. Donelans would be nice or a place like Idlewilde in Acton, CVS would be nice. Donelans (small), Pharmacy inside the grocery store, if possible, otherwise a small CVS would be ok. The problem with putting a grocery/market in Harvard is that it would not compete in price or selection with other grocery stores in the area -- The most likely model is Donelans in Littleton, which is way overpriced in part because of its size; and Trader Joes, which needs larger population to make its business model work. We also have enough restaurants in the area between Ayer and Serentos/Pizza Bellas. The one business of the three that makes some sense is a pharmacy -- our nearest pharmacy is in Littleton and that can be a bit inconvenient for filling prescriptions, and closer proximity would benefit the elderly and parents of youngsters alike. Trader Joe's, Panera Bread a new hannaford would do Donelan's in Littleton is good, also I couldn't check two boxes for question 8, but I would like to. I would have no objections to a medium size market like Donelan's in Littleton, or a small market like Trader Joe's (or both). I would prefer a small pharmacy the size of the Medicine Shoppe in Ayer. Almost any restaurant other than fast food (which we have already) would be a plus in my opinion. Legal Seafoods? The Border Cafe (as in Harvard Square)? A vegetarian restaurant? Mediterranean food? Wholefoods clone of Acton Pharmacy Gibbet Hill no chains Idylwilde How about an IDYLWILDE FARMS, a CVS, a WHOLE FOODS MARKET or TRADER JOES? Idyllwilde, Westward Orchards store, Harvard General Store, West Acton Pharmacy, Savenors, Formaggio (Cambridge), Concord Cheese Shop. Restaurants: No. 9 Park, Johnny D's (Somerville), Gibbet Hill, EVOO (Somerville), Fore Street (Portland, ME). Market Basket Not Your Average Joe's CVS Texas Roadhouse Olive Garden CVS, an inexpensive but medium-size grocery store (Market Basket, if they come in medium), the Italian restaurant in Groton (can't remember the name). None NONE! I would rather not have some massive facility, small to medium to would be best with a biased towards small Noted above. I suppose despite what I said earlier that a small grocery store of a Trader Joe's type could be nice. A whole food's might be nice as well, but they can be very big. No Donelans, an Idylwilde would be nice. I am leary of a pharmacy unless it is in keeping with Acton Pharmacy. I would hate a CVS, Rite Aid type in there. As for restaurants I think the possibilties are endless and good, non-pizza place, kid friendly or otherwise would be fantastic, but not a chain. Other than dunkin donuts which is crazy at certain times, I never see Pizza Bella busy and very often see no cars at Sorrentos. Why add more restaurants? I'd rather not have grocery or pharmacy unless it was in the Sorrentos strip mall and the real estate folks out of there an into the empty office space that is all over the place on Ayer road. We should be better using what's already there now. Grocery/produce market=Idylwilde type Restaurant=In a house, lunch and dinner, wine and beer, tea/coffee, affordable, comfortable. None in area to use as example. Pharmacy=Small as in West Acton. Name: ? Like Idlewild in Acton though not as large roche brothers, donalons, trader joes, whole foods (I know they turned us down) CVS Shaws Sole Proprieter None - there is nothing wrong with driving 10 minutes to get these type of services - there is virtually no one in town who has to drive more than that to get to a grocery store or a pharmacy - keep Harvard as Harvard - don't turn it into a strip mall town like every other Trader Joe's Something along the lines of a Trader Joe's or how about an Idlewydle (sp?) - I'd love to get fresh produce and bread here in town. Roche Bros, Donelans, CVS, Gibbet Hill Grill, I would love to have a Whole Foods type of grocery store. As far as a restaurant goes, one of my favorites is Lotus Blossom in Sudbury on Route 20. I don't care if Harvard has a Chinese restaurant but I do love the architecture and landscaping at Lotus Blossom. I like the seating inside. It isn't low end but it isn't 5 star. It is a bit nicer than just family casual yet a casual family can certainly dine there. Sweet Bites in Acton would be another nice addition to our dining choices. I would like a pharamcy to be a privately owned business rather than a large chain. Actin Pharmacy in an architecturally pleasing building would be perfect. Roche Brothers Idylwilde Farms, Trader Joes, CVS (small), small Market Basket (good prices!) open to ideas CVS I checked off "large" grocery because I believe we would never get a Trader Joe's grocery and I do NOT want a Donelan's (over-priced, little selection). Therefore, having something more like a Market Basket would be perfectly fine and very reasonably priced. Would I love a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's - YES by all means but I do not think those stores would feel there is enough of a market here. Medicine Shoppe in Ayer (though that works for me now), Filo's (sp?) in Groton, Trader Joe's type size. Bolton Orchards 31 Main Street, Ayer Trader Joe's or a large supermarket (as opposed to a small expensive "convenience store" type of supermarket. Trader Joe's Privately owned pharmacy Gardner Ale House None See my information on previous page. Debra's Natural Gourmet Ixtapa Mexican Restaurant As mentioned before, fresh fruit and veggie place like Idylwilde, and upscale coffee house small markets or small CVS- scale is essential as would be the ways the retail space was tailored to the area (integrated into other spaces like dunkin donuts). please don't allow anything big and ugly or commercial to come into the area. Our home is already seriously impacted by all of the noise and traffic. none of the above As mentioned previously, natural food market and/or restaurant. Trader Joe's, Idylwilde, Bolton Orchards, O'Hanlon's, 31 Main St., Crossroads Cafe.
