Day 1 Agenda: March 5th, 2015 08:00 - 09:00 09:00 - 09:15 Registration and Coffee Welcome & Introduction Nick Stead, OSIsoft South Africa The Journey To Real-Time Operational Intelligence Pasha Ahmad, Regional Manager, Middle East and Africa, OSIsoft 09:15 - 09:45 With the evolution of sensors and availability of sensor-based data across operations there is a growing opportunity to leverage operations data to deliver novel and actionable insights. Real-time insights that lead to process efficiency, quality, energy, asset health, regulatory compliance and safety improvements. This presentation will explore how a strategic journey using an infrastructure that connects people, sensor based data and processes delivers transformational improvements within operations. The Power of Connection Christopher Bold, Field Service Engineer, OSIsoft South Africa 09:45 - 10:30 10:30 - 11:00 In an ever more digital world, it is imperative for successful organizations to connect people and digital systems in order to create vital awareness and intelligence. This is achieved by integrating your data with geospatial context and event framing, by developing an interconnected digital infrastructure, and by leveraging real-time data sharing. Moreover, when this is done both within your organization and beyond its traditional boundaries, you empower every individual to make efficient and informed decisions. In this talk, we will show how to apply the power of connection. You will learn how your organization can best take advantage of the enhanced features and connectivity of the modern PI System, including new technologies like the PI Integrator for Esri ArcGIS, PI Cloud Services, and the PI Web API. Break / Product Pods Best Practices Customer Presentation: Operational Analytics – Event Frames – Ingot Life Cycle Management Anglo American Platinum - Warren Armstrong 11:00 - 11:30 Anglo American Platinum is the world’s leading producer of refined platinum, supplying approximately 40% of the world’s newly refined Platinum. Unlike many mining companies, the value chain at Anglo American Platinum is process intensive. Ore at grades of 1.6 grams per tonne needs to be refined to 99.99% metal. Plant data is aggregated by the PI Server and PI Asset Framework (PI AF) is used to hold the KPI configuration in a contextualized plant hierarchy. Following on the success of the KPI project and in response to a plant need a new project is being undertaken using PI Event Frames to monitor the complete life cycle of ingots cast. This involves tracking the materials, melt conditions, ingot cooling, mould utilization, chemistry, planning and quality. The event frame reports requires data from a number of systems and monitors the ingots cast at a rate of around 10 a day. Warren will relate how the project started and the insights and development through the test phase to going live and the business benefits. Day 1 Agenda: March 5th, 2015 (continued) Combining Space & Time for Improved Situational Awareness with the PI System & Esri ArcGIS OSIsoft & Esri 11.30 – 12.00 Since the announcement of the strategic partnership between OSIsoft and Esri in early 2013, both organizations have been engaged in a joint development effort to bring to life a shared vision of a standardized, fully supported and easy to implement integration of the PI System and Esri ArcGIS – truly unifying time and space. By displaying real-time operational data and historical information on a map, it is now possible to see patterns based on geography and perform spatial analysis in new ways opening up a new world of enterprise applications and services. The combination of Esri ArcGIS & the PI System will bring your data to life and put you on the map! Examples will be shown in Mining and the Utility Companies as well as the Dong Energy project which expects to reduce maintenance costs by 20 million Euros a year by having dynamic situational awareness about their offshore wind farms. 12:00 - 13:30 Networking Lunch and Product Pods Best Practices Customer Presentation – The PI System the Essential Pillar to MES Omnia – Yashin Parsard 13:30 – 14.00 Omnia Fertilizer produces and trades in granular, liquid and specialty fertilizers. The fertilizer plant at Sasolburg installed the PI System in 2013, to provide greater visibility into plant operations from virtually anywhere. The PI System also forms an integral part of our emerging MES capability, and as PI is a market-leading real-time infrastructure it ensures that we have a solution that is continuously evolving. Although the main focus for now is on MES and data visibility, future phase will leverage the powerful PI Event frames. In this presentation Yashin will describe the steps in their implementation, some of the interesting events that happened in the process, the initial benefits that are now being realized, as well as their plans for the future. Best Practices Customer Presentation – PI Developments at Stellenbosch University – A Better Future Now! Stellenbosch University - Dr JP Barnard - Centre for Process Monitoring and Process Engineering 14.00 – 14.30 Dr JP Barnard is continuing to develop new projects with PI based on his previous experience. Last year Dr Barnard showed how the combination of the OSIsoft PI System with MATLAB offers powerful, well-structured data analysis and reporting. A modular integration of the PI system formed part of a performance monitoring framework developed for Anglo American Platinum. The final product is now in daily use for operational performance reports on weekly and daily data episodes of production. In this presentation Dr Barnard relates the background and the development of a template set for the performance monitoring of mills. The templates will initially use synthetic data from their mill simulator. In projects going forward with industrial clients they will use the template sets and provide quick analysis and reports for the mill circuits. An additional project for 2015 is aligned with industrial partners in the development of an easy to use Analysis and Reporting system. Dr Barnard is keen to promote the need for closer collaboration between academic and industrial companies to leverage the strengths from both sides to create improved operational effectiveness as well as provide hands-on industrial experience for their graduates. Best Practices Customer Presentation – The PI System deployment a journey, not a destination! Illovo Sugar Pty Ltd – Lloyd Melrose 14.30 – 15.00 Illovo is Africa’s leading and largest sugar producer, comprising agricultural estates and 16 manufacturing sites across six southern African countries, with the first origins of the group’s history dating back to 1891. Illovo has started on a roll out of the PI system across its operations in Southern Africa in the last year. Lloyd Melrose will explain how things started at Illovo and the drive for real-time information across their operations. The benefits of the initial PI system initiative LOP about Lost Opportunity in the plant. The plans in place for gaining the benefits from the latest PI Asset Framework and PI Event Frames tools. Lloyd will also candidly explain the education and rollout process to the various plants to ensure that the system was positively received. Finally, Lloyd will describe some early wins, and new operational initiatives on the horizon. 15:00 - 15:30 Break / Product Pods Driving business forward with Microsoft BI and real time information Microsoft Making the correct business decisions relies on putting timely, accurate and trustworthy evidence, presented in a way that can easily be understood, in front of the right people at the right time. 15.30 - 16:00 This presentation will highlight the components of Microsoft’s BI strategy and the use of PI real-time data.
