Instructions to Prepare to Participate in
Courses that use Wimba Live Classroom
(updated Dec 2011)
Please read everything below.
Step 1 – Find your NSHE ID Number
About 3-4 working days after you Process Your Registration and pay all fees owed, you will be able to
“Find your NSHE ID Number” and “Activate your NetID.” The NSHE ID Number is needed to Activate
your NetID. The NetID is what you will use to log into WebCampus which is where all your online course
materials are.
Go to https://mynevada.unr.edu
In the left column, under For Applicants Only, click Forgot My NSHE ID
Follow the brief directions.
Your 10-digit “NSHE ID” will appear. Keep this number for future use.
When you are done, be sure to close out of this screen fully.
Step 2 – Activate your NetID
Return to https://mynevada.unr.edu
Again, left column (further down), under For NetID Activation (New Students), click Activate My NetID
Reason for this Step: To learn your NetID and begin using it for the first time (see Step 5 below), you
must first "activate" it. Again, wait approximately 2-3 working days after you Process Your
Registration to try to do this step. It takes time for your records to process through the UNR system,
so please be patient.
If you need assistance, you can contact the UNR Helpdesk at: (775) 682-5000 Select Option 3.
Then Select Option 2. Or help@unr.edu. The Technology Support page is http://www.it.unr.edu.
Step 3 – Set up Wimba Live Classroom
Some class participation may be via Wimba Live Classroom through WebCampus. Wimba Classroom is a
live, virtual classroom environment accessed through WebCampus with features that include audio,
video, application sharing and content display, and MP4 capabilities.
Before class begins, please run the set up wizard at http://tinyurl.com/wimba-classroom-setup.
If you have problems, the Wimba 24/7 helpdesk phone number may also be helpful: 866-350-4978
Step 4 – Access your Course(s) on UNR WebCampus
After you’ve successfully completed all four steps above, you can access WebCampus for your courses!
Go to https://webcampus.unr.edu
Your Username is your NetID which you activated in Step 3.
Your Password is your NetID password.
Be careful not to confuse all these new IDs and passwords. That’s easy to do!
The course(s) you registered for will be in your Course List (middle column) and accessible to you
1-3 days before each course starts. However, as soon as you’ve completed Steps 1-4 (above), please go
to https://webcampus.unr.edu and log in just to be sure you can get this far. Then, right before each
course begins, click on the course and look around to familiarize yourself with its structure. As the
semester proceeds, be sure to look for any course announcements under the Announcements tab in the
left column.
Step 5 – What you will need to participate in live videoconferences with the instructor
When you are in WebCampus trying to access Wimba Live Classroom, if you are having a problem
opening Wimba Live Classroom, try the following suggestion:
“For some students with problems, if they are using the Internet Explorer browser, tell them to try using
FireFox instead. Then, when they log into WebCampus, look for a light yellow bar near the top. If it is
there, it will say something like "This site is blocking pop-ups."
Then, click on the Options box on the right and "Allow pop-ups for WebCT."
When told by the instructor that you need to use Wimba Live Classroom, students will arrange for
access to the online Wimba Live Classroom via a computer convenient to you. Participation will require:
--High speed Internet access,
--Wimba Live Classroom set up on the computer you plan to use. (Again, you have to first run the setup
wizard. Visit: http://tinyurl.com/wimba-classroom-setup.), and
--a microphone connected to your computer, and headphones (a headset that includes both is
recommended).
If you have difficulty with any of the above, please contact Danise Sipple at danises@unr.edu or
Dawna Snyder at dawnas@unr.edu or both of us in UNR Extended Studies by phone at 1-800-233-8928.
Thank you for participating in University of Nevada, Reno courses.
