Probing Earthquake Faults below Reno
 Where are the earthquake faults below Reno and Sparks?
 Which faults are the most hazardous?
 Are there faults we have not noticed before?
A joint project between the Nevada Seismological Lab at UNR, Boise State
University, and the U.S. Geological Survey will answer these questions by doing
follow-up surveys in Reno. The surveys will happen between March 13 - 21,
2010.The seismic survey team will probe beneath Manzanita Lane, and along
the Truckee River between Lake and Sutro Streets.
The team is using high-resolution versions of oil-industry seismic
techniques to image the faults to a quarter-mile depth. Please “give us a brake”
and slow down if you see us working along the street.
