Univ. of Nevada and U.S. Geological Survey Probing Earthquake Faults below Reno Where are the earthquake faults below Reno and Sparks? Which faults are the most hazardous? Are there faults we have not noticed before? A joint project between the Nevada Seismological Lab at UNR, Boise State University, and the U.S. Geological Survey will answer these questions by doing follow-up surveys in Reno. The surveys will happen between March 13 - 21, 2010.The seismic survey team will probe beneath Manzanita Lane, and along the Truckee River between Lake and Sutro Streets. The team is using high-resolution versions of oil-industry seismic techniques to image the faults to a quarter-mile depth. Please “give us a brake” and slow down if you see us working along the street. For more information on this survey and our results, please check www.seismo.unr.edu/faultsurvey.
