Geometry A www.AdvancedAcademics.com Course Description Geometry B will use basic logic and geometry skills to examine ratios and proportions. Students will also study the properties of circles and solid geometric figures, geometric formulas, coordinate geometry, and transformational geometry. Course Objectives When you finish this course, you will be able to: Use the laws of similar figures and proportions to find missing parts, perimeters, and areas of similar figures Use trigonometric ratios to find missing parts of right triangles and oblique triangles Calculate the surface area and volume of various three-dimensional figures Apply transformations to various figures Course Assignment Values Assignment Type Points Possible Weight 6 Activities 300 pts 15% 29 Assignments 745 pts 38% 5 Unit Tests 500 pts 27% 1 Midterm Exam 1 Final Exam 160 pts 240 pts 8% 12% 1,945 pts 100% COURSE TOTALS Suggested Course Schedule The suggested time frame shown below is based on learning sessions. A learning session is a 45-minute period of time. This course should take approximately 90 learning sessions to complete, but this schedule is just a suggestion. You may work on each unit at your own pace, completing as many learning sessions as you’d like in one sitting. However, keep in mind that you must finish the entire course within the time specified by your school district. ©2011 Advanced Academics, Inc. All Rights Reserved. Learning Session 1-20 Content Covered Unit 1: Similarity Have you seen scale drawings or maps that are drawn to scale? Proportionality is used to make these. You will work on this skill in this unit. 20-40 In this unit, there will be: 6 Assignments 165 pts 1 Activity 50 pts 1 Unit Test 100 pts Unit 2: Circles Did you know that all circles have a constant ratio between their circumferences and diameters? Every time you divide the circumference by its diameter, you will get approximately 3.14. You will explore this and other properties of circles and their segments. 40-62 In this unit, there will be: 6 Assignments 150 pts 1 Activity 50 pts 1 Unit Test 100 pts Unit 3: Right Triangles and Trigonometry If you are given two sides of a right triangle, can you find the measure of the other side? What about the interior angles? You will be studying the special properties of right triangles and how to use those properties to solve angle and distance problems. 62-78 In this unit, there will be: 8 Assignments 200 pts 1 Activity 50 pts 1 Unit Test 100 pts Geometry B Midterm Exam 160 pts Unit 4: Surface Area and Volume Could you calculate how much paint you need to paint a cube-shaped room? What if it was shaped like a pyramid? In this unit, you will be studying the volume and surface area of solid objects. In this unit, there will be: ©2011 Advanced Academics, Inc. In this unit you will be studying translations, reflections, rotations, and dilations of figures in a coordinate plane. In this unit, there will be: 4 Assignments 105 pts 1 Activity 50 pts 1 Unit Test 100 pts Geometry B Final Exam 240 pts Privacy Policy No member of the Advanced Academics staff may release student information without the written permission of the student’s parent or legal guardian.
