Course Description
Geometry B will use basic logic and geometry skills to examine ratios and proportions.
Students will also study the properties of circles and solid geometric figures, geometric
formulas, coordinate geometry, and transformational geometry.
Course Objectives
When you finish this course, you will be able to:
 Use the laws of similar figures and proportions to find missing parts, perimeters,
and areas of similar figures
 Use trigonometric ratios to find missing parts of right triangles and oblique
triangles
 Calculate the surface area and volume of various three-dimensional figures
 Apply transformations to various figures

Content Covered
Unit 1: Similarity
Have you seen scale drawings or maps that are drawn to scale?
Proportionality is used to make these. You will work on this skill in this
unit.

Unit 2: Circles
Did you know that all circles have a constant ratio between their
circumferences and diameters? Every time you divide the circumference
by its diameter, you will get approximately 3.14. You will explore this and
other properties of circles and their segments.

Unit 3: Right Triangles and Trigonometry
If you are given two sides of a right triangle, can you find the measure of
the other side? What about the interior angles? You will be studying the
special properties of right triangles and how to use those properties to
solve angle and distance problems.

Unit 4: Surface Area and Volume
Could you calculate how much paint you need to paint a cube-shaped
room? What if it was shaped like a pyramid? In this unit, you will be
studying the volume and surface area of solid objects.
